Ditto on that. So you'll be driving it next week?

If I was on it full time yea maybe . So much work goes into doing it right . I used to do paint and body for 6 years and people just didn't appreciate what work is involved and where they're money went .

Trunk lid and doors back on . Changed out the pins and bushings . Doors were the heaviest I've ever taken off a car, seriously . Took a couple hours to line back up with the rear of the car and the fender . Gotta get it spot on or it just looks terrible

Went over the whole car again looking for any tiny dents we missed . Going to get another coat of primer , then more sanding YAY!

I read in an article once that a Monte's doors are so heavy that the energy it takes to close them would kill everyone on Gilligan's Island.
I thought that was spot on.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
LOL...the doors are wicked heavy but an engine crane & lift straps will help.
My Chevelle was originally Light Bucksin w/ Saddle top. Keep up the good work.

We used a floor jack which was fine . It was just the lining up that was a pain

Final touch up of any small dents we can see and feel before the second coat of primer goes on

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
I guess there were dents along the top of the rear wheel arches from the factory where the metal was formed . Both sides had exactly the same tiny dents the same distance apart . There were also some at the back if the hood near the windshield .

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
All wet sanded down and waiting outside while we clean the floor down ready for painting
Masked off yet again .
Had a bit of a panic when draining water out of the air compressor . The valve didn't want to stop the air coming out . Messed with it some then robbed one from another compressor in the shop , phew !

Are using a base coat clear coat or a single stage paint?

Some interior parts cleaned , scuffed up , sprayed with bulldog then painted . Most everything turned out really good , some of it looking new

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Looking Great. Do you hang up plastic for temp booth? that's what I do mostly to keep over spray off all my stuff. Paint is not bad but that clear goes every where.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Lower door panels were in poor shape. Did the best I could with some glaze and believe it it not sprayed them with truck bed liner then black paint over that . I've seen it done before and it worked out ok . If I see some better ones at a decent price later I'll put them on

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Rock guard works pretty good too for getting the texture back after filling in spots.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Do you use dental tools or something in the body business to get the grain back in the plastic trim pieces...

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
it was because they were in such bad shape i used the bed liner . helped fill in small holes after some of the glaze fell out (the sun had really ruined them and crumbled ) . it was like trying to glaze air ! haha .77mali wrote:Do you use dental tools or something in the body business to get the grain back in the plastic trim pieces...
