Very Nice El Camino swivel buckets but column shift, nice.
I see by the pics you plan on changing that at least , keep us posted buddy on your way to a sharp ride. you leaving the S-10 wheels or going bigger width wise

Welcome to the forum! I dig the satin black look.
Judging from the valve covers I'm guessing you have either a 305 or 350 with 88-95 Swirl Port heads? Also nice score on the tach dash. Not too many of those around.

Welcome. Its good to see another Elky saved from the crusher, where dozens of them go every day. Looks to be in great shape. JB

Re: MY DAILY DRIVER/PROJECT 73 EL CAMINO SS
Thanks to all of you for your comments about my ride.
The only thing i have done so far is replace the entire suspension front to back. New close ratio steering box, PST super front end rebuild kit, PST springs at all 4 corners, KYB shocks all around, PST Pro Touring Front sway bar 1 5/16" and a PST GMAX 1" rear sway bar (the factory never had one on this car.) The vehicle is as I purchased it with the paint on it. I provided the stripe kit.
I need to replace the floor pans next.
In Feb I am putting in a new turnkey crate motor from Phoenix Engine Rebuilders. A 350sbc with 1st gen vortec heads, dyno rated @ 350hp./375ftlb. most of the torque is low end and mid range.
I am going to replace the wheels with ION ALLOY 625 in 15X8 with 255/60R/15 rubber all around.
As soon as my center console gets here from ebay, I am installing my B&M ratchet shifter. The rear brakes will be converted to discs, The wiring harness will be replaced with a more modern Painless 18 circut unit, The entire interior will be restored and Autometer gauges will replace the stock ones.
Exaust will be full length Hooker Ceramic coated backed by a Summit Stainless dual header back kit.
The headlights will be converted to Xenon cool blue lamps and the other exterior lights will be converted to LED. The final part of this transformation, will involve shaving the door handles and converting to old school suicide doors. A new stereo is going in once I have decided what will fit and sound good. I may put an XFI fuel injection self learning unit on the engine if it looks like it will be worth the money.
This project will hopefully be done in the next 12-18 months.
I will post updates as some of these things get completed.
Let me know what you think of my vision for this SS
BTW Merry Christmas to everyone.

Re: MY DAILY DRIVER/PROJECT 73 EL CAMINO SS
That sounds like a very well thought out plan. Suicide doors will be interesting to see. 235/70 or 275/60 tires would fill in the wheel wells better than 255/60s though.
I have the headers you are talking about. They are a tight fit, but quality is definitely there. Also you will have to remove the support bars by the crossmember, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.
If you want to drop some weight, tuck the front bumper. Since you have a 73, it is easier to accomplish.

Your plans sound great to me, except the shaved handles and suicide doors. Its your car, you have to please yourself or its not worth having. JB

KYB shocks are great, I have them in my 74, also have vortec heads on mine, very happy with those.

Welcome Erik, Nice ride. I was floating in the Red Sea while you were eating sand during Desert Storm
I like the plans you have for the vehicle. I'm curious to see how the suicide/swivel combo turns out.

I was working for Uncle Sam during the Korean war, three years. Not in Korea though. In Europe, keeping track of Ruskys.
A nice ride there for sure, and you will have fun with it.

I was stationed in Germany and deployed to the gulf from there. I got to Germany on my 21st. birthday 6/15/89 and was stationed at Babenhausen Kaserne 41st. Field Artillery Brigade 1st. BN 27th. FA I was a MLRS launcher driver/gunner. Being there 3 months before the wall fell in Berlin was one of the coolest things in my life. Watching history unfold and getting a piece of the wall was amazing. I miss Germany.
