Re: Welcome Keith Seymore
I did a lot of reading on the subject, and most people claimed they worked. I really was hoping to get everything working to run with out them , but was having no luck.

Re: Welcome Keith Seymore
The more these cars get out there, the better. Nice work & that is a nice nugget!
I've always felt that for "Customization's" sake, i.e., drag cars, pro-tourers, hot rods, etc... our Chevelles are just as good as any Tri-five Chevy, maybe even better!

Current engine is a 555 cu in big block based on a GM Performance parts bowtie block, AFR heads, dart intake with either a 950 Holley (for NMCA Nostalgia classes) or a Dominator (for testing or open comp). That's around 900 HP naturally aspirated, based on the 9.85 ET/136 mph best @ 3950 lbs.
It's probably the seventh or eight engine as I recall:
Original was 454 - still sitting in the barn. Went 12.25 best in Atlanta one time while the race engine was broken
482 - in the mid 1980's; bored production block
572 - ran that one for a long time, till I broke two rods and they cut the oil pan in half
624 - rebored and reused the GM performance block from above. It finally split between the bores resulting in the engine I have now.
With the 555 we let the compression ratio creep up a bit (13.5:1) to make up for the loss in cubic inches.
Funny story about that 624: it broke while we were at an NMCA event in Atlanta. I knew something was up because it was pushing all the coolant out of the radiator and filling the overflow bottle after every run. I found an empty gallon milk jug and routed the overflow hose into the jug, so that it could fill the overflow bottle and milk jug (and just kept adding water) so that I could keep racing.
So the "word on the street" was that the car was hurt. I drew this guy named Cliff for first round, and he was one of those MOPAR guys that just rubbed everybody the wrong way. Once he found out he had me, and that whoever won that round had a "bye" run after that, he turned the smugness factor way up.
At any rate when the light came down Cliff dogged it, because he thought he had an easy win. I put together an excellent run: good reaction time and ran hard until I caught him about half track. I easily trounced him for the win.
He was SO MAD because he thought we were toying with him. He loaded up and left - without speaking to any of us - and it was a long time after that before he talked to any of us again.
But it was legit. The car WAS hurt; it just didn't affect my ability to put together a good run.
(lol)

I agree. Everything through the middle of the car (exhaust intermediate pipes, etc) is the same as '70-72 Chevelle; Big block stuff is big block stuff whether it's off a Chevelle or a Corvette or a pickup truck.
My car has parts on it from all of the above.

Not sure where that link goes, too scared to try at work. But Keith, I did like the story on the Pontiac race cars.

This one is a little more direct, I believe:

Caution: it's up to about 32 pages now. Over 122,000 views. I'm told it takes a while to read through all that.

Welcome to the 10+ year club Keith! Your car is easily the most recognizable vehicle here on the forum. The things you do with your Chevelle are beyond what I thought these cars were capable of. Keep making us proud of our G3's!
