My daily driver
This is what I started with 1 year ago!
This is my daily driver, A 1976 elco, registered as a 1973 elco.
I cut off 2 inches on each end of the bumper and rewelded.

Re: My daily driver
I like your Elky, man. There are a couple of things I would change (scoop, satin paint), but its YOUR Elky and not mine so you are the one to be pleased with it. JB

Re: My daily driver
I appreciate your comments! The scoop was liked on the chevelle but its the only hood I had and felt the hole in the hood would look funny with out something sticking thru it. I do plan to replace it, but for now its all I got.

Re: My daily driver
You wouldn't believe how hard it was to find a steel toolbox! Let alone a size big enough to house a battery, without being too big! I intended to install a matching box on the other side for tools, but that was before the locating of a steel box was proved difficult. Keep in mind the dimensions of the battery before you say they are easy to find! I almost had to opt for a "typical battery box" when I found this at a flea market, in pretty bad shape. Dents and paint were definately items of repair. If you have one of a similar size, I'd be really interested in it! PM me if you have one!

Re: My daily driver
I asked you this once before, but forgot what you said...why not use a thick plastic toolbox for the battery? I have a metal Craftsman box I'm not using in great shape, but looks to be about 6 inches shorter. JB

Re: My daily driver
my opinion only JB i think the plastic one would look cheesy and out of place on an El Camino like your always going fishing with the plastic tackle box in back and plus the plastic can be cut open and all your contents stolen where the steel one is much harder ( but still not impossible) to get into

Re: My daily driver
I second that maligoon! The plastic tool boxes just don't look like a tool box! Ask yourself, If you saw that in a parking lot somewhere would you ever suspect to have a battery in there? I've actually watched 2 people try to pick up the box and realize it wont budge and walk away dumb founded. When I told them what was in it they laughed, and said that was a great idea! Although now I realize I've invited the attention that I don't need! But I still like the "thats what you would expect to see in the back of a pick up or el camino bed". I almost settled for a diamond plate aluminum box but, I fought with myself to hold off until I found what I REALLY wanted.

I would think that tool box would be something for thieves' to mess with, have you had people mess with that box, also do you keep a lock on it?
