Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
That's a really nice looking paint job from the pic. Come down to Ky and paint mine now.
I've got to replace the quarter and patch the other first.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Thanks . All that's left now us to color sand it twice . Once with 1200 then 1500 . " argh will the sanding ever end?" . Also I think the transmission leak I had has stopped , changed over the speedometer fitting in the tranny so fingers crossed it won't have a little accident on my garage floor .
I'm really pleased with the color . Thought it was going to be a tad lighter looking at it in the can but glad it wasn't

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Around here, outdoor storage is at least $75-$100/mo. Multiplied by 10 yrs...yeah, I'd say he's over-payed for this! Hate to say it, but there doesn't appear to be much left as a foundation to work with.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Such a shame how this happens . Anyway I'm off down to Vernon TX to the car show so a few hours off from color sanding boo hoo !

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Here are a few pics of the car outside in the sun so you can get a better idea of the color. The left side is sanded in 1200 . Had to turn it round to get it in the garage to do the right side . So I'm about a quarter way done with the color sanding

Nice. Are you sanding color or clearcoat?

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Thanks guys . Mali I'm sanding the clear coat , it goes on straight after the paint . There's two coats of clear but I still have to be real careful not to burn through when sanding

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
I've been working on it most days after work and weekends for the last few weeks . I used to do this kind of work for a job so that helped .1973 454 MONTE wrote:holy

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Just curious- How many color coats did you end up using & what brand-name? I'm looking for a good quality material for color. Thanks.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
I bought a gallon of paint at first then two more quarts just in case we ran out half way through shooting it . Used all but a small amount on the car . Kept a little back for the rear filler panel I haven't got yet and for any touch ups .77mali wrote:Just curious- How many color coats did you end up using & what brand-name? Can't remember the paint brand but we've got paint from napa for years with no problems and are helpful I'm finding the color you want . Mine is a factory color so was fairly easy to get right .

Martin Seymour is the brand most Napa stores carry.

Huge difference between the before and after shots in a short amount of time. Excellent work!

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Once I'd made the decision to paint it there was no stopping me . No way was my car going to be one of those cars that sat in a paint shop for months and years like where I used to work . I want to get mine done and drive the out of itthatfnthing wrote:Huge difference between the before and after shots in a short amount of time. Excellent work!

I just made sure I had a good quality rust inhibitor primer on that metal . A gallon of Z chrome was $200dynchel wrote:Martin Seymour is the brand most Napa stores carry.

Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Hey yea that is a nice color on that car . Like i said before I was blessed with a very straight body to start with . The first pics make the car look really rough but it was all just surface rust . There was no rust holes at all so this gave us a really good head startPontichev327 wrote:Dang that looks Great!! Like the others said, it's amazing how fast you got it done. Great Job!! Re: My 77 Monte Carlo daily driver
Kinda sorta . They are real small luckily and both on the back of the hood . Not going to worry about them to much . It's way to much time and work to mask the whole car off and shoot the hood againPontichev327 wrote:Didja get the flies out? LOL:P
