Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
They are both very nice! How much hp you think the 73 will make?

Thanks, the 73 should be around 350ish @ the wheels on low boost (6-7psi) and 500+ wheel hp turned up (14-15psi).

Im already measuring on how to get a bigger tire on the back, the 275/60s just look so small on these cars, might try to squeeze a 295/65 in there.
Same height tire (28") on my 67

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
I agree on the tires, I spent hours and hours looking for the perfect tire and I still think I came up short, literally. Mine are only 26.7, so I know the car will either come down or the tires will get bigger.

I installed 295/ 45 's on the rear. Rear spring compressed , I have 3/8" clearance between the sidewall and INNER fender lip.

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
Also put a 4" electric cutout on the downpipe, then reduced it down into the single 3" exhaust that was on the car before.
Never thought 3" exhaust would look small...
2.5" vs 4"
Vid of the cutout while it was being mocked up

I can't see the pics on page 1 but all of the rest seem to work.
Awesome progress on your turbo build! Thanks for the updates. I'll be interested to see how you get the 4l80e in there, I've read a lot of A-body cars need to modify the transmission tunnel in the floor to get it to fit because it's bigger than the th350.

When you swap transmissions will you also be swapping rear gears ?

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
4L80e guy here, you MIGHT have either tunnel bumping or modifications in your future if you don't plan to alter position of the motor. I had my dirty dingo slider mounts all the way forward in the car (2" i think?) and I had to use banjo fittings for the trans cooler lines. The fittings cost about $60, but work excellent. I used a double hump crossmember, and I didn't know until recently pulling the motor and trans that it was bumping my floorboard. It looks like you'll have better luck than me based on this thread though, good luck!

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
you can fit 315/60-15 drag radials in the stock wheel wells if you roll the lip on the fenderwell. i also ran hoosier qtp 28x14.5-15s for a while on 15x10 wheels with 5" backspace. these cars can hook. back in its prime, my old one would show light under the front left on the street.

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
Haven't updated this in a while because I really haven't done a thing to the car recently other than drive it, but mostly because I bought a new (to me) truck that I kinda got carried away with buying stereo stuff for. But 2 weeks ago I ripped the 73 apart to put the 4l80e in it, dont really have any good pics right now but heres some random ones.
Put some more gauges in the 73
Doing the shift kit in the 4l80e
Also picked up some M/T 275 pros for it

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
And the reason not much got done on the '73 is the truck I picked up in october for a deal I couldnt refuse. Its a fully loaded (awd, leather, sunroof, heated seats, etc) 04 Yukon with only 132k miles on it.
Then I proceeded to get a bit carried away buying a whole mess of stereo equipment for it (most of which I still haven't found time to install)
Kenwood 7" in dash screen
100' of OFC 1/0 power and ground wire
Mids and highs amp (90Wx4) to power 2 Morel 6.5" component sets, and the sub amp (2400Wx1) to power the single 15"
Fi audio 15" Q (should be enough for now)

What did you run for the radiator?

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
The tiny stock one that a 73 with a 307 came with. No idea how or why, but it'll run between 195 (fan turns off) and 207 (fan turns on) in traffic in 90* temps all day long. Even with the intercooler and giant trans cooler both in front of it.JF74chevelle wrote:What did you run for the radiator?
Here you can see the intercooler and the trans cooler in front of the rad.

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
That sure is a beast -- did you have to do a lot of work to the tunnel to make it fit?
And it looks like it sits kind of low -- is that just a trick of the camera angle?

No mods to the tunnel at all. Just flattened out the pinch weld in the bellhousing area a bit to make getting to the bolts easier because the motor is pushed far back. It looks like it hangs down alot lower in the pics than it actually does, the pan is maybe 1/2" below the frame.

Re: My 73 Chevelle turbo LS swap
Nice, I picked up a T56 last week. Going to cram that bad boy into my Chevelle. Gonna have to seriously look at what motor mounts to run.
