Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
Progress is slow right now. Seems like I can't spend any quality time in the garage. Over the weekend the front clip went back on
And I got the Holley brackets on and most of the accessories rehung.
Sold my CJ-7 on Sunday so didn't get anything done on the Chevelle.

Looks like hood will clear fine. A/c is close to inner fender from this photo angle.
Won't be long tell its running now.

No clearance issues on the hood. The ac compressor actually has a almost two inches. Bad picture angle.
Left to address:
finish up fuel system
get cooling system installed
figure out what I am going to do for gauges
inside passenger compartment wiring

Got out to the garage again last night for a couple hours. Got the rest of the front accessory drive installed and wrapped up along with the power steering plumbing. Got the belt right on the first try! Slow but sure wins the race.

Nice job. Curious- what are those lines feeding by the harmonic balancer?

Those are the trans cooler lines. I will replace those with some straight ones once the radiator and trans cooler are mounted.

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
It's running!. Woohoo.
Made the first attempt yesterday and it popped and sputtered then started but was running horribly, popping and sputtering. I shut it down and started rubbing my chin. My scanner showed no major issues so time for a little investigation. The passenger side exhaust manifold was warm to the touch but the entire drivers side was cold. Hmmmmm. When it was running it sounded like a sbc that was 180 degrees off on the timing. I took a shot and flipped the coil harness on the drivers side and turned the key. It started right up and after clearing the extra fuel it settled right down. I do have an pretty good oil leak from the timing cover seal around the crank so tonight I will be changing that out. Need to figure out how to post videos.

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
congratulations that is such a great feeling when you here them start and run for the first time. Even more so with all this new wiring and ECM's boxes now days.
I got lucky with mine for no leaks yet. Its been sitting for almost 3 weeks while I work on the kitchen remodel and my daughters Boyfriend came over this weekend and was helping me unload some flooring into the shop. He asked if he could here it run. Turned the key and it popped right off. My daughter said to him when we came in "was that your reward for helping dad you get the here that car run"? He said with a smile "yep is was". I think he's a keeper I told her. He has a 98 camro with a 5.7 in it. I think he fits right in if you ask me.

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
Thanks. Yea that moment is pretty intense. The first try when it popped and sputtered there were some colorfull words flying and a sick feeling in my stomach. When it finally fired I was all smiles.
Is it better to upload videos to photobucket or utube?

Yep, nothing like the satisfaction at that moment when everything you did was proved right!
Nice job on that project, BTW!

You can hear the exhaust is still rattling under the car when I walk to the back.

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
Thanks for the compliments. I am happy that it seems to be running well. I need to have this wrapped up by the end of April so I can get it shipped to my son in San Diego so not likely you will see it this summer. Got the new tires and Detroit Speed lowering springs on over the weekend. Have not driven it yet because there is no front seats or console/shifter in it yet. Also looking to sink the bumpers. Is the best bet to drill the bumper shocks? Do you weld them in place once the oil is out?

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
Welding the front bumper shocks?!? Its your choice really, I did on my 74 chevelle and didn't on my sons 76 elco. However the bumper shocks can be accidently pulled out. (Not completely) My son tried to pull something with the bumper and it pulled out to its original length. He had to remove it to get it to compress back to where we had it. I'd recommend completely install everything on and around bumper so you can "tweak" the sink in distance as you like, then a simple tack weld should suffice.

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
Thanks Bruiser. Did you drill two holes in the shock or will all the oil drain out with one?

Re: ls1 swap in my sons 75
I welded mine up and never thought the oil in it. Just compressed them in a press and welded it.

one hole on each end of shock is what I did with mine on the cutlass when I sunk mine in
