Ls swap? Empty Ls swap?

Post by McCauley5983 Sat Feb 13, 2016 2:57 pm

My 400 took a dive the shop did a piss poor job of machining and it's subsequently come apart. Looking at a budget swap figure I can get a decent lq4 for under a 1000 and then maybe another 1000 to get it all together and I'm keeping the muncie behind it

My buddy is using a 245k mile motor out of a truck and the trans. I'm pulling the heads, porting, and new valve springs/seals. Then running the motor in a 74 T/A.

A cheap 5.3 with a mild cam swap would make some good power.

x2 thats what Im currently working on to replace the 355 in my '67.  Got an all aluminum 5.3 complete out of a 04 Buick Rainier (same as Trailblazer) put 4.8 flat top pistons in it (makes CR 10.5:1 over stock 9.5:1) with cam, headers, tune, etc. It should be good for at least 330hp at the wheels, and be a good bit lighter than the current all iron SBC.  Going to keep the th350 in the car cause it was just rebuilt last year, re-wire the harness myself (not as hard as it seems & saves you alot of cash), and bought HP Tuners ($500) so I can tune it myself.

Quick & basic breakdown of the 67 build

Aluminum 5.3 $900
Headers $500
Cam (223/227 .610/.590) $350
Springs $220
Pushrods $100
4.8 pistons $75
Holley oilpan $325
Gaskets, bolts, other misc items $250
Tanks Inc EFI fuel tank $500

Figure Im gonna have about $3500 into it when its done.  Now obviously it can be done cheaper, but my '67 is too nice to 1/2 A$$ it.  Very Happy
