Summit- Rear Sway bar
Found this on their Fl-E-bay store. Good price for new? I've seen others from the "famous" manufacturers going for WAY MORE.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
Paul,honestly my car does really well with a stock one you can probably get for 10 bucks used. It really sticks good for a car this size, ive got a bigger one in front though from a 75 Trans Am.

$10.00 I'd pay in a heartbeat & have no problem restoring...

I know this is a little more at $124.00;

But it is a good price for a new 1" bar with all hardware. His store looks pretty good;

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
LOL- thanks guys....I'm thinking the 1-1/8" is the "stock" diameter for our cars- yes?

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
I thought it was the 7/8" n the rear. Could be wrong though.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
What's the diameter of the original stock ones?
OPGI has them too....on sale for $113 (list $172)...
http://www.opgi.com/p/suspension/6371/164/ADDC324.html
I was surprised to find them "new" anywhere. Hotchkis makes nice stuff but all their stuff is very expensive. I guess you get what you pay for...hopefully.

Nope 7/8 is stock for us Grab a Junk Yard Impala SS / Cop Car Caprice rear sway bar they are a direct fit
the NIB brackets and the sway bar from the caprice 9C1 police package from mid 90's, if you get new brackets remember to hang onto the 8 self tapping bolts you will need them for the new bracket for the side holes are not threaded and you have to run the bolts in before mounting the brackets to thread them..............

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
That's good to know. Thanks guys! Mali didn't come w/ one so no reference point. Would the larger 1-1/8" bar be any better in terms of performance? The one area of the car that needs a total "upgrade" is the rear suspension, thinking of even spending the $$ for the adjustable lower arms & modifying the shocks/springs...etc.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
Handling, performance wise, a bar especially a bigger bar is and excellent choice. For dragging and off the line, I find that my chevelle launchs nicer without the bar.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
Thanks for the info Joe. I'm not worried about off the line but I'd like it to be able to corner & even be able to drift a bit, when necessary. I'd really like to put in a traction & sway system like with the G-body Regal GNX but that would probably require "custom" fabrication....ugh.

My thanks to yet another 1973 Monte Carlo contributing to my Chevelle!

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
I've been thinking about a bigger bar on the front of my Elco project. I have the stock 7/8" on it right now. I have a stock rear bar, but I don't like the way it hangs down on the 9" Furd rear end. Might check what other folks are using on the Furd rear.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
i'm curious Bill- why the 9" Ferd rear? I know they're a common swap but are they that much beefier than the GM 10 bolt?

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
The Furd 9" is much beefier than out 10 bolts. Much better if your putting out huge power. Our 8 1/2" 10 bolts have a larger pinion bearing than the 64-72 12 bolts. Having the larger pinion bearing makes ours beefier than the 1970 1/2 and prior 10 bolts.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
I know Bill's Elkie is going to put out some big numbers. My measly 350 (well 355 now- LOL) will be putting out 350 hp but I think the 3.08 rear can handle that.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
The 8 1/2" 10 bolt does real well. I've havent had any problems with my 3.42 or 4.10 rears with lots of hole shots on them. My buddies grand national runs in the 9's with his 10 bolt.

Re: Summit- Rear Sway bar
In my case the car had no wheels and is sitting on the ground- had to have the yard pull it for me. I don't like this yard too much- they have a huge "retail" operation and charge a premium for parts. Still, no shipping to pay so I think I did ok. These "parts" cars are few & far between here.
