Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Thanks for the offer Mali!
From what I read here: http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/motmount.html I assume small block brackets will work.
The ones I bought yesterday measure 2 5/8", so apparently they are not from a truck according to that site.
Chris: is it possible for you the measure the distance in your brackets?

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
my 454 clams are 2 3/8.
if memory serves me right, when i put the 350 in my car i tried the 454 clams, but it would not fit.
so YES clams are different it looks like.

So it's the bolt pattern against the block which is different, or the shape as well?

Do you still need measurements? Mike look like the ones you posted from the Camaro site. Let me know.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Man, hard to see the difference for an untrained eye. Thanks Chris!
Mali: you don't have to bother, seems like I have to find some big block brackets now.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
I never knew there was a difference in the mounts! I was able to use my 350 mounts on my 454. Had no problems. Until I read this, I assumed they were the same. Funny thing is I now have a set that came with the 454 I just rebuilt, and I can't tell the difference!

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Since the 454 mounts only measure 2 3/8" from the bottom to hole centerline I assume the engine will sit lower in the bay compared to small block mounts. But if there is enough room under the hood, maybe it wont be an issue.
If I get the brackets by next weeked we'll lift the engine in Mali!

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Does anyone know what size the bolts for the frame mounts are? Do they need to be high grade?

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
heads are 5/8 nuts are 11/16.
my guess yes and 1/2.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Thanks chris, but do you refer to the bolts that go through the mounts, or the three that clamp the mount to the frame? I was thinking about the latter.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
All right, but do you also know the size of the mount to frame bolts?

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Here's a pic- I'll measure the length/diameter once I can find my calipers. The heads for the nut & bolt are 9/16". They way mine mounts to frame there are 3 bolt/nut assemblies used. But you may require 4 sets per side for the big block, not sure.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Great mali! I think there will be three on each for the big block as well.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Picked up the mounts today:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-454-CHEVY-ENGINE-MOTOR-MOUNTS-A-B-1973-90-11467-11609-/190769347388#ht_3007wt_806
However, they don't measure 2 3/8" from the bottom to the hole centerline like yours Chris. They are just under 2 7/8". Truck mounts?
Can this 4/8" difference really cause a problem? I doubt it. Hoping to get the engine in during the weekend.

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
Couldn't find calipers but looks as if:
Bolt length is 1-3/8" (34.925 mm)
Thickness is 5/16" (7.9375 mm)
Thread Count is 14
4/8" (1/2") or 12.7mm...LOL @ 4/8"

Re: 1975 Monte Carlo
No worries man! Just to be sure, this is the distance you measured and got 2 3/8?
I also have the 2 5/8" small block pair, which probably will fit according to Bruisr.
But hey, can 1/2" really cause a problem?
