'76 Cutlass High School tribute restoration. Update: frame swap.
Hello Guys and Gals,
Well I started the restoration on the 1976 Cutlass Supreme that I will outfit to replicate the car I drove in high school.
high school car circa 1983
high school car back end
Here is the one I just picked up, 56,000 original miles, mint interior (same color as high school car). runs and drives great:
Started by removing the vinyl top:
cutting off the old quarter panels:

Were they in bad shape? They didn't look too bad, especially the driver's side.

Nice work. Looks good. In the 83 back end pic. What sway bar was under there? Looks like a 90s b body bar.

Damn your good! I swiped it off my Moms '80 Holiday 88. She said I could have it because she never cornered faster than 5 MPH. (LOL) I picked one up off E-bay for this one from an Impala SS.

Both lower door pinch welds were rotted (big surprise). The one leaning up against the wall is one of the originals. I managed to locate two rust free doors that just had some minor dents.

Yeah, I really missed mine too. I sold it to get a 70 Chevelle (which was very cool too) but I never really got over selling the Cutlass. Glad I found this one.

Thanks for the compliments. The goal is to have it back on the road by late spring, when all the rain and crappy weather diminishes.

Thanks. I was in Elgin this morning to pick up more primer. Installed the new fenders today and block sanded the entire car for the first time. I'll post some pics, probably tomorrow.

Re: '76 Cutlass High School tribute restoration. Update: frame swap.
The bottoms of the original doors were in pretty sad shape:
Replacing the fenders:
They were pretty bad too:
New fenders and doors aligned and a second coat of 2K primer after an entire weekend of block sanding:

Yup, the dry black powder type. I have to use it, my old eyes can't spot the imperfections like they used to, (LOL)
