Bolt in axle
Anyone have a good set of these or a source to get new ones? Ive had this friggin vibration and after a bunch of parts and 2 new tires (they helped) the vibration is still there so I broke down and took it to a shop. He put it on the alignment rack with wheels off the ground and ran it and the left axle has runout. Id like to replace them both. Its a 8.5 rear but with the olds bolt in axles im sure we are all familiar with.

Re: Bolt in axle
Why not pull the axles and have the face trued up at a machine shop? Depending on how much runout there is. Might end up with used ones that are also bent! 100
Percent certain that it's the axles and not anything else like bad motor/trans mount worn u joints bent driveshaft, missing weight, etc?

Its something back there . He says you can see it . It isnt much but with a small tire on it you can see it. Joe and I worked on it a while back and we saw something there too. Id like to buy new ones but I dont see them anywhere, just c clip ones. I might not be looking in the right place though.

Re: Bolt in axle
Ant, I havent stumbled upon bolt in axles. Only the normal C clip ones. A good option might be getting some "ten factory" axles like I did and putting some C clip eliminators on them. Then they will bolt in.
Just a thought.

Re: Bolt in axle
Joe. Will the c clip eliminator bolt to the stock place on the backing plate? What about the bearing?

Re: Bolt in axle
C clip eliminators have the bearing and seal mounted together and get pressed on the axle. Then they bolt onto the backing plate bolts with longer bolts. Look in different manufactors of them and see what it says in the instructions. Figure its a good option.

Re: Bolt in axle
I'm not running them. I looked at them quickly when I rebuilt my rear but just bought the ten factory axles and installed them.

Re: Bolt in axle
So ten makes the bolt in axles? Didnt see them or do the ones listed for 8.2 work. I know they are interchangable but the length im not sure about.

Re: Bolt in axle
I didnt see ten.factory bolt in axles but if they are the same then u could put eliminators on them. Maybe call them. Does rockauto have anything?

Re: Bolt in axle
Most Buick Olds Pontiac axles were all bolt in. Might be easier to find one out of a Cutlass...they're all over the place.

Re: Bolt in axle
I got them from west coast differential made by nitro. They worked out good! Unfortunatly there isnt Cutlass' all over around here anymore.
