taillight gaskets Empty taillight gaskets

Hello again - I'm trying to gather up all the necessary parts and pieces before we actually paint the car. I have found most of the little stuff and restored the remainder but can't find any decent gaskets for my taillights - I have 2 that are useable but looking for another pair without too much rot and tearing. I assume they are not available new but anyone have some good spares or point me in the right direction?

I couldnt find them.even back in the 80's. I made a set from a trunklid gasket and some weatherstrip adhesive. Worked great and its still in my car. Rough with one year only parts.

yep, I know what you mean - I've had 3 of these 73's and parts are not getting any easier to find. I bought some weatherstrip by the foot from Steele Rubber and will have to do the same as you, I think. Did you use contact cement to attach it to the light or weatherstrip adhesive? Thx

I turned the gaskets upside down and it worked for a few years (no leaks).
I then used plumbers putty with the gasket and was able to get a good
seal. The only trouble with the plumbers putty is that it is a beige color.
With a little work, I was able to get a good seal with no color showing on the outside.
Plumbers putty stays soft and has sealed for over 4 years. It does not stick
to the gasket so the gasket can be reused.

Thanks guys - may try to go with fabricating the trunk w/s as Joe suggested on the 2 that are not very good. Another gasket that I am looking for is the rear marker foams - they are also difficult to find! Do you think that 1/16" rubber gasket material would work?
