1976 chevelle tail light seals
Does anyone know the GM part #s for the 1976 chevelle tail light seals/gaskets? I'm looking on starting a restoration soon and wanting to start getting some needed parts. Thanks
Mike

gaskets
Mike: I have several good tailight gaskets that I've had in my storage for years. I don't know what the part numbers are so not any help there. Let me know if your interested.

Thanks for your reply. Are these new or used gaskets? Also what would you need for them? Do you have any pictures of them? Thanks.

Re: 1976 chevelle tail light seals
Problem with used seals is that they have taken a "set" from years of being compressed. Not to mention, they just don't have the resiliency of fresh gasket mat'l.; thus, providing areas of possible leakage. I have another option for you that I used myself and I think is far better. I had contacted a guy on e-Bay who's located in FL and goes by Adrain22305. I got the impression he is retired and just doing this to supplement his income. Anyway, he sells closed cell medium density neoprene/epdm sponge (NOT foam) in 1/2" thk and was very accommodating when I asked if he could slit some to 1/2" wide. Very reasonably priced and small minimum (think I bought like 20' only because I felt like I needed to give him something for his efforts to set up the slitter for my desired width). Seems to me it was something like $1.25/ft. Test fit the length needed for the taillight and then bond the ends together with flexible weatherstrip adhesive to make an endless gasket.

I'm working on a 76 Laguna and am having a terrible time trying to get the tail lights to seal. There is some rust issues in the rear panel.

I see he has extruded square stock (even better than slit as it would have a "skin" on all four sides) 1/2" x 1/2" available in 10' lengths for $10.50 + $3.50 shipping. Well worth taking a look at that price.

That's about right. All trunk, roofrails & door seals are closed cell sponge.
