paint..
I just finished all the sanding, cleaning the floor etc, so I'm ready to lay on the paint on the Elco. Base coat, then the clear. Getting prepared for paint is where 90 % of the work is....
So tomorrow I should have it painted. Not only that, I bought a new mop to do it !! I graduated from using a paint roller..

Re: paint..
This morning I got the base coat on the Elco. Then I cam home and mowed the lawn ( I have half an acre of grass, but not the kind to smoke )... Then I went back after lunch and applied two coats of clear on it. The clear has to go on within 24 hours after the base coat.
So it's finally all one color ! The clear coat ( PPG ) is nasty stuff, and luckily I had just bought a new respirator, since the old one was getting in bad shape.
Now I have an airplane waiting for work, so it will be a couple days before I pull the masking off....

Re: paint..
I have a quarter acre here- I hate mowing. Glad to hear the paint is done (less wet sanding no doubt), that's awesome, you must be excited!
A good respirator is a must with any paint, especially when your spraying with professional equipment. Where's the pics? LOL

Re: paint..
I wish I was that patient. I'm lucky if i wait 20 minutes before unmasking.

Re: paint..
It's been a long haul getting it this far, like 5 1/2 years.....but I believe I see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel !
I polished all the trim pieces on the buffer last spring. Only one that is really not good is the piece around the top of the grille...have to find a better one of those..

Re: paint..
If its the '76/'77 aluminum "frame" all you have to do is strip off the anodized finish & polish the aluminum underneath to a chrome finish. Â If its the chromed potmetal '74/'75 grille then you are S.O.L.pila wrote:It's been a long haul getting it this far, like 5 1/2 years.....but I believe I see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel !

Re: paint..
Wow 5-1/2 years is a while. Â I've had mine since Nov of 2010, getting close to that also. Â It's hard to find time let alone dedicate it to such a restoration. Â Life happens & such & I'm just looking at it like: Â All that much sweeter when complete.

Re: paint..
Thanks again for the kind words.... I didn't get much done on it in the coldest winter months during the five years. Last year seemed like a colder one than before, so I had a "winter" project, and airplane I've had like forever, and rebuilt from the ground up. It's a 1947 Luscombe 8E, a two-seater, like the one I learned to fly in in the early 60s. So, I don't run out of projects because of the weather !
