Re: New-ish Member - 1976 Laguna
oh, that sucks I hoped you were closer. I live about a hour from the PA border...in the home town of the 20th president James Garfield.RacerS3 wrote:I am way over on the west side of the state in the northwest corner, in a small town called Bryan. I have had the Laguna to only a few local shows over the years and the local weekly cruise-in during the summers. The only other show I went to was the "Northern Chevelle Gathering" in Niagara Falls NY in 2004.

Re: New-ish Member - 1976 Laguna
It is possible that the black Laguna was for sale at Carlisle PA in the mid 90's. I bought the car in early 2004 from a guy named Jeff in Connecticut. I saw an ad for the Laguna on ebay, I talked to him on the phone several times about the condition of the car, and all the time, the money and the effort he put into it. We settled on a price and I told him I would be there on that Saturday with a trailer to buy the car, if it was truly everything he said it was. To be honest I was a bit skeptical, I had a strong "this is to good to be true" feeling. But when I got there and was able to give the Laguna a good inspection, I could see the Laguna was as he described it. I actually started to feel bad for him as we looked over the car together. I could tell this car had been his everything for a long time and that he didn't really want to sell it, but because of personal issues he had to sell it. Several of his buddies stopped by as we loaded the car on the trailer, I think just to support him and to see the car off. They also went on at length about the work he put in to the car. Every time I work on or wash the Laguna I am impressed with the quality of work he did. So, just in case Jeff visits this site, I want to let him know the Laguna is being well cared for.

That is cool. I almost sold mine once. What was I thinking. That would be like selling my right arm. I think I would miss them both equally!

I agree. Some of the biggest regrets I have are of cars I wish I had not sold, or ones I wish I had bought but didnt.

I remember the car I saw didnt have trim rings and had black painted rally's and I think had those yellow lettered tires on it. The guy wanted big money for it at that time which I thought was a huge amount of money, like 22 grand or something (for that time ,it was exceptionally nice and Im sure still is) and couldnt be replicated for today.

Yep.. This is most likely the same car. It did not have trim rings when I bought it and I still have one of the yellow lettered goodyears in the trunk as a spare. You most likely saw it when the restoration was very fresh. Like I said it has held up well over so many years, but it had a few flaws by the time I bought it, but over all the car is still very nice. Your right it would be hard and very expensive to replicate today. Which is why I couldn't pass it up when I saw it for sale.

That deserves a +1. Â
We're really just care-takers of these classic cars until we pass them forward. Â It's good to see one that's been well looked after and appreciated it's whole life.

When I croak between me and my brother my nephew is going to have some collection. He better like black cars,4 of them are black. Its true we cant take them with us and we are just the care takers.
