Frame Swap on 1977 Elcamino
Hey I was wondering if anybody knew the answer to this question. I have a 1977 El Camino but the frame on it needs help, but, I can get a 75 two door Malibu (no motor or trans) cheep. The Malibu has a great frame will it work under my El Camino?

Re: Frame Swap on 1977 Elcamino
The El Camino has a boxed frame where as the Malibu doesn't ...Where the 2 door has a 112" wheelbase the Elky has a 116" same as the wagon and four door cars

No! The frame you mention has a 112 inch wheelbase and is not boxed. The Elky has a 116 inch wheelbase and is boxed. In my old age I forget whither the 4 door frame will work or not. It might. JB Oops, I did not type fast enough.

Occasionally there is an Elco frame for sale on Ebay or Craigslist, or on El Camino Central forums.

About two months a go there was a frame on Craig's list (Cleveland). It was a abandoned project. I saw it first hand, it looked nice. It was from a '75 elcamino. I don't remember the what he was wanted for it though $1000.00?

Doors fit but the windows need to be changed to the el Camino windows. (Rear part is shaped different). The front clip should be a direct bolt on.

My "75 Elco has '76 Malibu fenders, core support, and '77 grille, and '77 hood. Front bumper is Malibu, rear is Elso of course.
You can choose the grille & headlight combo you want ! I would rather have single headlights, but I had 2 sets of quads, so....
The '77 model Elco has some subtle differences from '76 & earlier.
