Go to your local Menards, Lowes. Home Depot and purchase an empty plastic quart paint can. Dump your POR in it and reseal when done. Works great! I've also put a piece of Saran-Wrap over it before putting lid back on. Try it, it works.

The four-bolt mains aren't necessary unless you are running big power anyway.

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
The problem is I paid for a rebuild of my engine which had 4 bolt main bearing connections- with a block core exchange. That's what I expected back- even though the engine is a mere 350 HP- I got no call from them saying this would happen and it came as a complete surprise (shock). If he had said- I only have a 638 casting for a 2 bolt, I would have told him forget it.

Maybe he figured that the power of the build didn't need the 4-bolt mains (?) Of course he should have notified you of any changes in the agreement.

Yes, he should have & he didn't return my email or a telephone call this PM. I'll be on their doorstep tomorrow morning.
Think of it like this Bill:
If I brought a bench seat to an upholster to be recovered and I got there & the job was completed (& done nice) but the center arm rest was missing because the upholsterer felt it wasn't necessary to complete the job. Know what I mean? My theory is that he did not have any 4 bolt cores and was either too lazy or too busy to bother to drill & tap the bottom of the block for the extra bolt holes. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt too maybe he just screwed up and forgot mine was a 4 bolt...if he admits it, we'll work something out, if not then it will get ugly. UGH...like I need this "bleepin" drama.

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
Well happy to say they took full responsibility for this mistake. Turns out it was an honest error. Unfortunately they will have to tear down the entire assembly to transfer to a clean 638 4 bolt core but there was no drama and I received a heartfelt apology. I am a happy camper...don't even mind hauling the engine back up there. I respect people who "own-up" and after all, how can you argue with- "Don't worry- I'll make it right & I'll get it back to you in a week or less".

Thats nice to see He's taking care of it. We are all human and make mistakes but its only a mistake if you leave it that way.

Yes we are all human for sure... I've made my share of mistakes. I walked into this giving them the benefit of the doubt (after thinking the worst & then thinking it through & calming down a bit-LOL).
I'm glad there are still honorable people out there.

Thank you Bill. I had to fight the urge to get a dual hump X-member... but the darn thing was in such good shape under all the grease & grime that I have to keep it.

Got my engine back this afternoon & made darn sure to look underneath before they loaded it...LOL. Will post up some pics this weekend once it's on the engine stand. Looks like they applied like 3 coats of enamel on it (probably to make up for the little mishap). Happy it all worked out.

Paul, what are you going to do for a tranny crossmember? Are you going to cut and modify that one?

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
No Anthony I'm leaving it as is (or as close as I can). The car came with pipes & mufflers but I have them stored and haven't laid the system out yet. Might get some opinions from a couple local 'custom' exhaust places near by and see what they think too. The exhaust is not the original style & I installed the 2 long pipes from the headers (no mufflers) when I got the old engine going last summer & fall. Looked like there was plenty of clearance. We'll see.

The pics don't do it justice- it came out real nice. Hoping to work on it some more this weekend.
Edit: The final engine parts came today! Going w/ a double roller chain & sprocket and got the oil pan seal too.
