I see no reason why not, but I am not giving your money back if it does not work. JB

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
28 spline should, but i doubt its a 28 spline, gov locs came in full size trucks and use a 30 spline axle. I think so does the caprice/impala uses a 30 spline but dont quote me on that.

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
3.08 or higher gears (3 series)
check the bearings for any abnormal wear and/or pitting. if they are good you should be ok using them. If your pinion depth is already setup with the right gears in your housing, then all I recommend is getting a carrier shim kit for the 8.5 and swap over the ring gear and set up back lash and bearing preload
if your swapping gear ratios or assembling a housing then its a whole nother story with more parts and setting pinion depth and gear pattern and pinion bearing preload

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
OK so I know I have lower gears than that already in Car so is it worth my time even messing with this then ?? for that would make it a 2 series right

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
Word of advice from someone that's had experience with gov-bombs before:
I wouldn't recommend putting any power behind that unit.
I wish I still had pics of what happens to them, but it's not very pretty. I had a Z71 that was mostly stock rolling on 33's. One day while just driving around I heard a clicking noise & before I could baby it home........ KABOOOM! It busted the ring gear into several pieces, broke an axle, & shot pieces of the gov-lock through the front of the differential housing rendering it completely useless. Granted I had big tires, but it's not like I was hard on it or had much power at all. I'm not the first person to have trouble with these, certainly not the last.
Since Limey is now a strip vehicle, why not throw in a mini spool & call it good? IMHO it would probably be your best route to go.

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
Id recommend a full spool if possible. but if your just wanting to throw it together and go mini spool will work. but for either of them bolt in axles is the way to go (maybe its factory bolt in since its an oldsmobile)

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
Anthony, since your moving to more of a race route, i would go with rago said. i dont think youll need a full spool, but you never know later down the road u might. my 8.5 has moser axels full spool 411 richmond gears and an Ultimate rearend girdle with support bars. that bitch is held for stout. they guy that previously had the car was goin 11.50s with a BBC and leavin off a rear line lock. talk about trying to grenade a 8.5

Re: I need a fast answer for this one

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
full spool is better than the mini, alot stronger, less moving parts

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
i dont know if there is a difference in driveability with a full vs mini. but the are much stronger.

Re: I need a fast answer for this one
that is up to you, while the full spool is alot stronger, the minispool will hold up for a while. We ran one for a while, hell still will be soon.
