Decision Making Disorder
Alright, here's the deal
Got access to three sets of Vette wheels for the same price, can't make a decision...HELP
1 set of 77 Vette wheels (See project brown eye and 1973 454monte)
1 set of 95 Vette wheels, polished (93-96 i think)
1 set of 95 painted silver. The 95s are the directionals and have to go on in sequence
LF RF RR LR etc.
tried to get a pic in, ain't workin out
Going on the Laguna to replace the rallys=Opinions?

Re: Decision Making Disorder
I vote for the Vette wheels! LMAO just kidding. If I remember correctly, the newer Corvette wheels are a different offset that's gonna require some spacers to fit. I'm starting to really like my wheels the longer they are on the car. Too bad they aren't 10" wide in the back, but still the offset is great for an 8" wheel. So my vote goes towards the older set. Let's start a trend.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
Ya ain't biased are ya?
I am leaning that way-my wife (If you can believe it) says the 77s look more like they should be on the car. She said the 95s look "too new", and I kinda agree with her. They look good on Browneye, so I figure they'll look good on "Kojak" too.
What size tires do you have on there?

Re: Decision Making Disorder
I'm not really biased..... OK I might be a little biased. Believe it or not, I'm running 235/70s all the way around. I plan to go with some 275/60s in the back next time. Not that the 235s aren't cutting it, just want something wider in the rear for more of a muscle look. According to the conversions, 235/70 = 275/60 in height so no real change other than more width. I know 454Monte runs 275/60 all the way around, but for my taste that seems too big for the fronts. When I bought the wheels they had 245/60s & it left way too much of a gap in the rear, but the front didn't look bad.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
Here is the spec page from BFG. The 275's are nearly 2" taller than the 235's.
The stock size for our cars is roughly a 225/70R15. The widest size that comes close to that diameter is a 295/50. That is why I favor that size on a 15" rim.
Besides, 295's look badass on a 8" rim.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
You're looking at 235/60. 235/70 is 28" 275/60 is 28" also. I love a 295/50, but after seeing Limey sporting a set I took a second thought.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
yea in my opinion if you dont have the new springs and shocks limey had I would stick with a 275/60/15 will eliminate ALL rub issue's associated with the 295 wider meat.
this pic I am showing is a 28 x 10.5 x 15 tire it will rub unless it sits like Limey did
NEW SHOCK'S AND COIL'S WHY LIMEY SITS LIKE SHE DID

Re: Decision Making Disorder
295's won't rub when installed on an 8" rim. The 295's on my 76 now are on 10" rims w/4" backspace and they will rub. These very tires were on my 73 with 8" rally rims and didn't come close to rubbing-even with hogged out bushings.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
I had 15x9 slots with 295/50/15's on my orange 73 laguna with no rubbing issues at all.
I also had the 295/50/15's mounted on a set of 15x8 rallys with no issues at all. the car was at stock height with both set ups.

AND GUY'S THE RUBBING I AM TALKING ABOUT IS THE TIRE SIZE OF THE SLICK 28 x 10.5 x 15 AND A 10" WHEEL ON A 4.5" BACKSPACE

Limey- what new springs did you say you had on there? Cause that is really high. The pic I posted is also with new springs in the rear for a 74 chevelle.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
I bought them from a local spring shop here In Illinois he asked me what I was using them for and this is what I ended up with. BUT I had the 3 way adjustable race shocks in there alsobigredlaguna wrote:Limey- what new springs did you say you had on there? Cause that is really high. Re: Decision Making Disorder
I am not bias either, but I like the old school look.I always had 15x8 rallies on the other montes, but with the 454-73 I wanted to be different.Through the years I have only seen the corvette aluminums on 4 other chevelles/montes.I have also noticed that they look better with raised white letters than black wall, maybe just cause my car is triple black.
On the 8" rallies I had the 235-70's on them and then found out the 275-60 was the same height. So I put them on all 4 corners. I was never into the different size difference between front and rear. Now on the 86 caprice I have,I had to put 235-70's on 15x7 rallies on the front because the 15x8 with the 275-60 was to wide for the front wheel wells. But I do have the 15x8's with 275-60 on the rear.
The newer corvette wheels have a way different offset, and you would need adapters.
Hope this helps.

Re: Decision Making Disorder
Thanks for all the input fellas.
Leaving here shortly to go pick up the 77s. Got the guy down to $275 for the wheels and caps, but he doesn't have the lugs, so that lug info will be handy. These wheels have the black centers.
Those chromes are nice, but wow! $$$
I figure I can polish the hell out of the aluminum and get close to that look.
Will be checking back when I get home to see more about tire sizes!
