Newly Purchased '77 Chevelle
Greetings! After about 12 years, I'm again the proud owner of a G3 Chevelle. I had a '74 that my mom bought new that I started driving when I got my license. It was pretty rough by the time I sold it, but it went to a good home with someone who had the time and money to fix it. I'm to the point where the kids are old enough to enjoy a project. That '74 is what got me into cars, which lead to my first career as a technician. It eventually had a 400hp 350, modified 350 turbo and a Caprice 9C1 rear end with disc brakes.
I've been looking for another G3 A body for about 2 months now. After some interesting finds, I stumbled across this gem. It's a '77 with 53,000 miles on it. Super clean, no rust, awesome interior with a crack free dash. The air blows cold and it runs pretty good. It has a weeeeeek 305, but that's ok. My goal is to make this a pro touring LS car. More pictures to come.

Kudos to you for protecting your dream. That's my second favorite color on these cars. I was lucky enough to find one in my favorite color. Keep up the photos.

Re: Newly Purchased '77 Chevelle
Nice score. I like these cars best when they have the original trim on them. Nice crome trim is Real hard to find for these cars, so happy to see yours look like its in good shape. Congrats on getting back in to cars, life is so much better with cars as a hobby. I absolutely love my chevelle, and i get much joy out of fixing it and modifying stuff making it go better and faster.

Re: Newly Purchased '77 Chevelle
I'd be a little worried about those bubbles under the vinyl top on the passenger side behind the back window. That's where mine was rotted on both sides.

Re: Newly Purchased '77 Chevelle
Vinyl top prep sucked. Mine had bubbles but luckily it turned out to be pits and not holes after grinding it down. I do have a rusted thru spot under the opera window but it's minor.
Are you pulling that roof off and replacing it?

Eventually. I'm not sure if I'll go back with the vinyl or not.

Re: Newly Purchased '77 Chevelle
I spent some time going over the car. To be honest, I was a little skeptical about it being an actual low miles car. It looks like the core support and radiator was repainted. Other than that, It looks original. The brake and fuel lines are still rust free. The floor pans are rust free. The inside of the trunk is super clean. I don't remember the gray spray in coating around the bottom inside of the quarter panels, but it looks like it's under the side markers, so I'm thinking it's been there for a long time. The exhaust is newer. I'm surprised it has a converter and y-pipe. I seem to remember my '74 having a double relief cross member. Did that go away in '75 went the converters came in?

Beautiful car, condition looks great. Unrusted floor pans are a blessing. Yes, 75 was first year for converter so no dual exhaust xmember for base models.

Look at this site. A 6.0 truck engine with 6-speed auto would be a great place to start.

That's awesome! So much easier. I just put a LQ9 6.0 in my '05 Suburban. I would love to put one in this beast. I'm on a budget with this, that was kind of the selling point with the wife. My plan is to find a 4.8l complete with wiring and transmission and do a stroker kit. Same block as the 5.3, but they are much cheaper in the junk yards. I think Scat or Eagle have a decent stroker kit for the $2000 range. The 799 heads off a Gen IV are great stock heads and fairly reasonably priced. With the right cam, I could be in the 500hp range. On the other hand. A reman 6.0 LQ4 is $3200. I could just slip a cam in and still be close to the 450-500hp range with very little effort. Then I could throw some Ls3 heads on in the future with the bigger bore. So many options! I plan on using the stock wiring and PCM to cut down on price as well, taking the time to modify it right.

Nice find. It looks like a very nice car. Do you know the story as to the number of owners and the low mileage?

The guy I bought it from tried to track the previous owners down. He bought it 9 years ago and put 4k on it. Owner #2 had it for a few years who put the carb and wheels on it. Owner #1 basically never drove it. It sounds like he was an older gentlemen.

In another post you stated you are from KC. How far did you have to go to find it? I'm also from the KC area.

Good to hear from a fellow metro area guy! Found it just south of St. Louis, about 3 1/2 hours. I'm originally from St. Louis, so I check their local Craigslist often just to see what's out there. I was real close to buying a '75 Monte that was only a little over an hour away, around St Joe, but this one had more of what I was looking for. The car that started this whole crazy journey was a '74 in Independence that I mentioned in my inroduction. That poor thing sat in a field for the last 20 years.

That's awesome! It looks like you have 15x8 rally wheels? They really fill the wheel wells better. What color is your interior?

Sage Green. I did restore the car in 13. The 305 is gone. I put in Air ride and a 5.3 LS motor.

Looks fantastic! I'm planning a LS swap also. I'm not sure which direction I'm going yet. I was originally thinking about a budget 5.3. Basically a rebuild with the best combo of factory parts/wiring and aftermarket cam and springs and a 4L60E. I really like the L92 heads, but that means 6.0 or bigger. But there go the $$$.
