PARTS PLACE
Beware of The Parts Place on E-bay. Long story short I purchased a steering shaft seal from them that their listing clearly shows fits a '73. I had my doubts as to fitting a '73 so I did ask them before I purchased if they could measure it and if they knew for sure if it would fit a '73. The reply was "I don't know" So I asked them about returning if it didn't fit. They said as long as it's in the same condition return is no problem. So I returned & they got me a 15% restock fee plus shipping to and from. I'm out $18. It's not going to break me but it's the principle. It does not fit and I asked before the purchase. Complete incompetent idiots. E-bay doesn't seem to care that they are selling incorrect parts. E-bay is making their money. I called e-bay and quickly realized $18 is not worth spending an hour or so on the phone and getting the run-around.
The Parts Place Hood hinges suck as well. Bought one of those last fall. It didn't open all the way. One of the arms hit a rivet head. And you guessed it, I'm the only one that has ever complained about their good china made hinges. That they did return that without a problem. I did get stuck with return shipping. I realize they are about the only place that has some of these parts for the 3rd gen cars but you do need to watch them. My $18 is keeping someone in China employed.

Bad Parts
I too have had a bad experience with this outfit. Fortunately after a few phone conversation that were less than satisfactory I decided not to make a large purchase from Parts Place

Re: PARTS PLACE
On the other hand, I've had great service from them. ( not through Ebay though) The windshield, the gas tank & many other parts for my '75 Elco came from there with no problems at all.

Re: PARTS PLACE
I've ordered a couple of things from them without a problem. However, that restocking fee and non-reimbursed shipping both ways on a returned item that was their fault is just plain bad business practice. I have no respect for businesses that operate that way. You make a mistake...you make it right no matter what it takes. I worked for an industrial parts distributor like this and believe me, we ate our share of expenses due to mistakes we made. Cost of doing business if you want to retain customers.

Re: PARTS PLACE
To be fair, I purchased a set of sill plates from them about 10yrs ago. They fit great, and still look good. Made in China, but I was glad to get my old ugly ones replaced. They were the only game in town that had them. But in this case the part clearly dosen't fit a '73 and I guess that is somehow my fault. I would totally understand if I bought something from them and changed my mind. I was looking at one of their center console inserts with the hinge, Again, the only place I have seen that has this. I'll wail for OPG or someone else to start re-poppin these.

Re: PARTS PLACE
A retail parts business, or any other that deals directly with the public, is only as good as the people who work there.
I've had superior customer service from Summit, NPD, and even OPGI most of the time.
The El Camino Store is not batting a thousand though, and has a history of screw-ups.
So it takes only one dip stick employee to screw things up !!

Re: PARTS PLACE
The only thing I bought from TPP was a pair of outer window felts back in 2008. No issues, still look good. Maybe their service has gone downhill since.

Re: PARTS PLACE
Another other place that I've had good service from, especially when a problem comes up, is inlinetube.com
I bought some stainless brake lines and braided brake hoses form those folks...

Re: PARTS PLACE
Overall I have had good luck with the Parts Place.
Purchased a passenger side qtr panel about 8 years ago, sill plates, etc.... no problems.
Recently purchased an aftermarket fan shroud from them, it fit better than expected and was nicer (and cost less) than the one from Summit.
The only issue I had with them is when I called to inquire about a manual steering gear box.
I asked what was the gear ratio....."Don't Know",.......who manufactures it....."Don't Know".......I guess making a phone call and finding out never crossed the sales guy's mind (and he is one of the better ones there).
I bought it from Jegs.....they knew the answers. Lost sale for them.

Re: PARTS PLACE
When buying aircraft parts from a supplier, and the person who answered the phone "didn't know", my favorite response was " you got a manager in that dam place ?, lemme talk to that SOB !"
It usually got results..
