Console glove box
Anyone making a repop of these? Or has anyone retrofitted something from a Camaro or FBird?
I did compare the console glove box on my 74's console to a 2nd gen Camaro,,,,,close but no cigar.

Re: Console glove box
I'm resurrecting this old thread because I'm turning attention to my center console restoration. Thinking about pulling the trigger since my original is broken as you'd expect. The original lid can be secured to this replacement hinge and box, right?

Re: Console glove box
Thanks John. I took a quick look at my console lid underside and I saw how there are screws for a cover panel to take off to reveal the hinge. You liking your's still?

Re: Console glove box
I got one last summer it was warped, it doesn't have a hinge per say, it folds on thinner section of plastic. I sent mine back. I had to pay return shipping but did not have to pay the 15% restocking fee.

Re: Console glove box
Sorry to hear you had to return yours SStoolman. I got mine in today and put it in, works good. Now I just have to figure out how to reinstall that torsion spring For now it is so nice that the console lid stays put!

Re: Console glove box
It will probably sell. I saw NOS 73 trunk Chevelle emblems go for over $300 in two separate auctions.
He might have to switch it over to Bids instead of buy it now. I bet it would get to $500
considering there isn't a top pad available aftermarket that I m have seen.

Re: Console glove box
I believe that NPD has console parts, but haven/t had the need to look at what they have. I refurbished the console on my '87 Elco last year. I made a new hinge with an aircraft type piano hinge, and did the same on my '75 Elco last winter. The bending-plastic stuff sure is crap, A friend at the airport has a late Chevy pickup, that the glove box door fell of of after two years ! Real crap in new stuff these days...

Re: Console glove box
That's just mind boggling. I realize I got my front buckets, rear bench, console (with the glove box and lid) plus the shifter and a few other things for about $500 (Canadian) that's almost what this guy is asking for just the glove box. I get that I bought all this stuff together as a package and would consider myself very lucky but even so I'm thinking $100 tops for the box and lid. I will be impressed if you're right SSTOOLMAN...

Or they get fed up with trying to make a piano hinge work.
I searched high and low for a center front bumper filler for my 73, I bought a supposed perfect one from a yard out in Idaho.
when it came it had 6 cracks 2/3rds the way across it. when I called and bitched the guy said what did you expect from a 40 yr old part.
I bought one from Just Plastics and it only had bolt flanges on one side instead of 2 (which meant it would rub the paint off the outer fillers after installed) and was warped.
I found a member here that had a NOS one I paid $300 for it but it completed my front bumper so it was worth it.
$600 is extreme for the Console cover but somebody will buy it... Too bad.
This guy dropped his price from $99 to $59 after about a year. well worth it? he thinks so.

Its supposed to have wood grain and say CHEVROLET. it did come out of a 454 Y code so I guess its worth it!

I got a good laugh out of that as well. $59 down from $99 for an emblem holder...................without the emblem. priceless. I made an offer to the same jacka$$ for his $99 trim tag. The answer was no. I pointed out that there was nothing on the tag to indicate a 454 or the SS package. It's still on there. I got one from a member on here for $20.
