Finding a replacement car
After reading the same story over and over again, it amazes me as to how many of us are replacing a former car. We remember great times we had in these wonderful cars. We met our spouses, drove it to high school, had that special moment or even that great drag race. For most of us, it was a simpler time and I will always remember meeting my wife while driving my first El Camino. As a father of teenaged kids, I don't think they will look back and remember their cars in the same way. Today's cars are just transportation. Our cars were part of us.

Re: Finding a replacement car
You're right about all of that. I'm lucky enough to still have my first car, proposed , got married, my son got to drive it into the garage before the major overhaul it's getting right now.( He was 3, sat on my lap). Tons of memories with my Laguna. We've gone thru a few cars over the years, and for me and my wife it's sad to see them go. Typically they last for 200,000 miles and they get scrapped.

Re: Finding a replacement car
You guys are correct alright ! At my age, lots of water under the bridge.... My first car was a '37 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe, and the second, a a '40 Lincoln Zephyr club coupe. Both had the flat-head V-12 engines !
3rd car was a '41 Caddy 62 series.....346 Flat head, super smooth engine.....a really great car...
Like we always say, it would be cool to have some of our first cars now !

The Chevelle was my first car. I dated my wife in this car - and I still have both!

Re: Finding a replacement car
We spent a lot of time in those (these) cars. School, work, play. Lots of emotions experienced in the drivers (and back ) seats.
1. Most of us had to buy our own cars, so we appreciated them and loved on them a lot.
2. We basically lived in them 24/7
3. We drove them for years because we couldn't afford anything else.
4. They gave us the independence we craved.
5. Friends and girlfriends came and went, but the car was always there and never let us down. Well, usually.
Kinda like a good 'ol dog that you could fix.

Some times it feels like they are a member of the family. I've had this El Camino for 15 years and the second car that I ever owned, the 1986 Monte, for 28 years. A lot of great times in both of them.

AMEN!
Up until a couple years ago, I was able to say I still had my 1st car. Now, not so much. Weird, in more ways than 1.
