New from PA: 73 SS L48 4 speed
Hello, I'm really glad to be here, love the site! I just picked up a new project car, a numbers-matching 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport with the L48 350, M20 (Saginaw) 4 speed, 3.42 posi rear, dark red metallic with white swivel seat interior and console, gage package, and suspension package, non-A/C car out of Oshawa, Canada. Car originally came with a white vinyl top but the previous owner took it off, but I stll have all the top trim. I should have the GM of Canada documentation for it next week. My long term plans are to restore it factory but for now I want to get it road worthy and drive it for now, I have antique tags on it. Thanks Anthony for getting me activated here I appreciate it!
Trying to upload pics but haven't figured it out yet....

Re: New from PA: 73 SS L48 4 speed
Thanks. Yeah I believe my car originally had the small center caps, as there was one that came in a bucket of spare parts. I believe the ones on it now were swapped over from maybe a Camaro or Nova, etc. I also need to get front and rear bumper guards for it, to replicate original.
Does anyone know what that Speedometer driven gear option is? Is that just something they list since it was optioned with 3:42 rear gears?

Re: New from PA: 73 SS L48 4 speed
That should be the plastic gear that does into the side of the trans to make your speedo match what rear axle ratio you have. So your speedo will read correctly. They come in different colors for different ratios.

Re: New from PA: 73 SS L48 4 speed
Hey that car looks familiar... Mine is a 350, has AC and auto, no vinyl top, black interior. I have one rim that matches yours for the spare tire. My front bumper filler is red like the upper part of the car but it might have been silver when original, I have seen them both ways.

Re: New from PA: 73 SS L48 4 speed
Slow going on this end with my build. Bunch of things I had to take care of first. Thought I'd have the undercoating removed and the bottom epoxied by now and I'd be working on the blasting the body and more epoxy. I got about 90% of the undercoating off. Now I have to do a good wipe down, scuff and shoot.
Mineral spirits in an old windex bottle works great at loosening up the undercoating. I spray it, quick scrape, spray, wipe, spray wipe. And its almost good to go.

On my car it appears that the urethane(?) material or whatever it is for the front bumper material was molded in the silver color. So maybe over the years some repaints occured and painters/ owners elected to paint those pieces body color, which I think looks sharp personally. I would doubt if it was molded in color, that it would have been anything but silver, otherwise the factory would have needed all the factory colors in that mold.
