Been hearing it for 2 years. EPA approved it quite a while ago against the complaints of the marine and small engine industry.

The profiteers are renewing their effort to green light the increase,I read it in the news today.Looks like I'll be buying my antique evinrude fuel at the marina in the near future.(It's still ethanol-free.Shhhh...don't tell anybody.)

Let's all hope the "powers that be" don't turn those places into Prius charging stations.

Re: Uh-oh! 10% ethanol at the pump might go to 15%
There is absolutely NO good reason whatsoever to put another 5% crap in to mix with gas other than further subsidizing the corn industry. I'd rather see them send the extra corn someplace where people are hungry & just give it away for free or swap it for more oil or some other commodity. I hate these sh!theads running the show who think they know what they're doing. No common sense at all- it's all about profit $$.

Re: Uh-oh! 10% ethanol at the pump might go to 15%
Right on, Bro!
Think about it...10% ethanol already yields around 10-12% less in fuel mileage (I have done my own tests and can vouch for this). Â Of course, that leads to more consumption...and thus, more tax money for the gov't and more grain revenues to both the farmers and grain companies. Â Since fuel consumption has continued to drop with people buying more fuel efficient cars and altering their driving habits, the next logical step for those parties is to mandate another 5% ethanol; resulting in even further reduction in mpg; so as to help shore up the profits and lost taxes. Â In addition, our illustrious Gov. Dayton is trying to ram through a large gas tax hike. Next will be that device they have experimented with that is installed in each persons' cars that record mileage driven. You then report that at tax time for an additional tax.
It's interesting...I drive down to Iowa every once in awhile and was just down there a couple wks ago. Â They still allow you the choice of Regular grade non-ethanol alongside 10% ethanol. Â As the leading producer of corn in this country, you'd think they, of all states, would be the front-runner in mandating more ethanol usage. Â Apparently not the case.
Here in MN, we can buy Premium grade non-ethanol, but only for classic/collector cars, small engines, boats, snowmobiles, etc. Â BTW, our local gas prices (Reg. grade ethanol) just jumped $.30/gal today to $2.79/gal. Â I think the good times are coming to an end.

Re: Uh-oh! 10% ethanol at the pump might go to 15%
From what I have read the "ethanol corn" is bio-engineered specifically for use as a fuel additive and is not fit for human consumption.I think one of the many problems with this "venture" is the use of taxpayer money to subsidize it's production while the edible corn crop is being drastically reduced which is the reason for skyrocketing beef, pork and poultry(and anything else that eats corn) prices along with other corn-based foods.

Re: Uh-oh! 10% ethanol at the pump might go to 15%
That's very telling about Iowa. Â Seems they know something we (or most of us) don't, eh? Â I betcha those harvesters & tractors don't run on ethanol gas. Â Every time we turn around our elected officials are bending us over in the clover, here in MA it's par for the course- not one person in the legislature is trustworthy to actually do what's right for their constituents. Â They only look out for themselves and until WE change that it will only get worse. Â Problem is the avg. voter is an uneducated dumb-a$$ who fails to seek fact versus the fiction they constantly are blowing out their pie and corn holes (pun intended!).
And so the corn they "engineer" for adding to fuel is not fit for consumption? Why does that not surprise me? Useless.

Re: Uh-oh! 10% ethanol at the pump might go to 15%
A few years ago, an Arab oil guy said he didn't understand why we are using FOOD for fuel !
Another 5 % will kill the gas mileage a bit more also I believe.
I recently discovered a Marathon station near me that has boat/RV gas, 90 octane @ $3.22 a gallon, which I can use in my boat. Our airplane can use it too, since I have the FAA approval for auto gas...without ethanol of course.
Avgas , 100 octane low-lead, is lower than last year though, @ 4.60 here. I use it in my Malibu, which is a storage queen at the airport most of the time, but the engine likes it

Re: Uh-oh! 10% ethanol at the pump might go to 15%
I just emailed both my Senators and all our House Reps- hope everyone here takes a little time and does the same. Stuff like this and this EPA "mandate" referenced in Ant's link has to stop.
You can look up your Rep's here by your zip-code if you want (middle of page on the left).
