P S pump pressure kit
I just ordered a kit to reduce the pressure from my power steering pump. The Elco and my Malibu steer way to easy, and one of the folks on the El Camino forum used this kit & said it worked.
The place is:

If it works good, I'll do the Malibu also...

Bill, do you have the.steering stabilizer installed? And is.it good ? I always liked the steering on my 74 Monte when I had.it

Re: P S pump pressure kit
I wasn't aware that a stabilizer was available for the Elco or Malibu.!!! Is that an aftermarket add-on ?
I may be interested if the pressure reducing kit doesn't work.

Re: P S pump pressure kit
I usually see the stabilizer in montes. I do recall seeing a malibu with one as well. I wonder if the center link is the same. But the stabilizer is readily available.

Re: P S pump pressure kit
Doing some cross referencing, Monte and Chevelle have the same center link, but the Moog SSD22 is not correct for the Chevelle. I couldn't find one for Chevelle's.

Re: P S pump pressure kit
The one for the Monte has the hole to mount the steering stabilizer. I'm not sure if they are still available but the Chevelle one might have a spot to drill a hole.

My wife's Jeep Cherokee has one. Likely not hard to copy the installation if necessary..

Re: P S pump pressure kit
I installed that spacer kit today in the PS pump outlet ( shim washers). It took about half an hour, plus cleaning the area of the engine bay where the oil mess dripped. I use mineral spirits for cleaning, with a Binks cleaning gun..
I didn't take it out to see the difference yet...snow storm in progress here !!

Re: P S pump pressure kit
The number of shim washers determines the pressure, which goes from around 900 to 1300 PSI. I picked the 1100 PSI stack, to try the middle of the range. If it needs more or less, not really big deal to change it...

Re: P S pump pressure kit
Thats cool. Didnt know it was that easy. Sounds just like the GM Z28 shim kit and spring to boost the pressure in your oil pump. I remember doing that a couple times.

I was wondering how this ever worked out? Did it give the feel that you were looking for?

Hi
It's been a while since I've been on here ! Some health issues etc. Yes, the shim kit for the PS pump seems to work good ! It calmed the steering down to where it doesn't irritate me !

Re: P S pump pressure kit
Sorry to hear about your health. Hope you feel better soon.
We’re the shims basically very thin washers that were installed behind the valve on the outlet of the ps pump? I remember removing these when I changed my valve out for a different one.
