75 wheel/tire size help
Hey does anyone know what the max tire size is for a 75 chevelle laguna style body?? ive got stock 15 x 8 wheels and am looking for larger wheels maybe 17/18 and fatter tires. i also dont wanna lose any handling performance nor would i like them to stick out past the fender. i appreciate the help

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
The wheel wells on these cars are absolutely huge! I've got 19x8's up front and 20x10's in the rear. Backspacing is 5" up front and 5.75" in the rear. I started with 245/35/19's & 305/35/20's, but after three burnouts on Power Tour, the rears are gone. So, I just ordered some 315/35/20's and I'm changing the fronts to 275/35/19's.

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
Welcome to the forum! I'm sure Limey will chime in soon. Seems like he changes wheels more than I change my oil.
Seriously though, the general consensus is that if it fits in an older A-body it will fit in ours. I've had 15x10s in the back with 5" of backspace & I think that looks about as tight as I would want it. 5.5" of backspace might have worked better, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure all stock wheels are only 15x7 & smaller unless you got something from a later model car.
I haven't ever run larger diameter wheels, guessing you could squeeze a 10"-12" wide tire in the back. Probably 8"-10" in the front depending on backspacing & if it's lowered.
Looks like 74Malibu383 has your answer. He has about the biggest rolling stock around here.

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
Thanks Mally.
All of these 5 lugs use the standard GM 5x4.75 bolt pattern. Take a minute and go to this link.
https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html
It will give you everything you ever needed to know about wheel terminology.
As for my backspacing "5" up front and 5.75" in the rear", it's perfect. Without sounding like an A$$... it really is. The rear tires are perfectly positioned between the frame rail and fender. I've done NO body/frame modifications to fit these things.

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
LOL I agree, you do have the nicest one I've seen too. The only thing that sucks is now I have to change my plans. You really hit my dream car idea on the nail.

No worries. I changed my plans mid project... I don't recommend that. It gets expensive that way.

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
295/50r15 is too big for a 7" wheel. They require 8" wide wheel minimum. 275/60r15 is as big as you want to go with stock rallies.
I've never heard of 295/60r15, that's a 29" tall tire! Got any pics or info on these?

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
I was referring to Limey & those 295/60R15's. I'm curious to see them.
Would be cool to see a still shot of your ride though!

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
Hoosier makes some, but that's one goofy size. I'd never buy a set....

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
If only one company offers a tire in a certain size, then it is goofy. Besides, it's 29" tall, and probably won't fit your wheel wells, due to the massive bulging of that gigantic sidewall.

Re: 75 wheel/tire size help
Thanks for the sizing 74Malibu383. That's what I thought it was.
MallyMal, it's goofy because its a 29" tall tire. You might as well buy some truck tires & throw them on. If you want an idea of what I'm talking about, your tire is only 27" tall, so add 2" to yours & you'll see what I mean. Really fills the wheel well, lol.
