Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Aside from a '70's camaro, I don't think there is a better body suited for them.

You got that right. I'd add the Ford Galaxy to that list, but not much more. I saw a van at a cruise night with them once, it looked almost silly, they couldn't get ones long enough.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
These were 4" Hookers. Â I used a 2&1/2" takedown pipe to get between the stock exhaust manifolds and the dummy inlet of the side pipe (the forwardmost collector pipe).
I wouldn't recommend these; Â they do get hot and there is no shielding if you inadvertantly bump up against them, which was easy to do when exiting the back seat.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
I doubt those are available any longer. Â It seems only the patriots are available (and they are shielded). Mine are dynomax and the heat shields which are about a inch from the muffler do get pretty hot.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Thanks for the information, it's looking like the Patriot's are going to be the ones. Mostly because I can't find / get anything else.
Now, need to decide on headers. Considering this is just a fun cruising car with no intention of racing, mostly just a few burnouts and having fun I was thinking mid-length for lower end torque benefit verses high reving torque improvement.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Oddly enough I just picked up a set of corvette headers and sidepipes LIMEY posted on page 1. As mentioned they don't fit, but I have a lot of time and desire to make them work. I picked up the set at a local swap meet for 200.00. They are hooker brand and chrome plated. Unfortunately they wont be chrome when finished. So far, I'm working on the driver's side header. I've had to cut the header into about 20 pieces and reposition some bends and elbows. I'm about half way done with it, I'm gonna need to purchase another set of 2 in. headers to cut up and use to complete them. I'll try to post some pics, but the pics might not load up.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Oh NO! The stack setup is finished! That was for my El Camino, the sidepipes will be for the 74 chevelle. I currently own 3 G3's. A 74 chevelle, a 73 GMC Sprint and a 76 GMC Sprint. Both sprints are driveable, the chevelle is under construction, a very slow construction.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Dynchel / Ghostrider : How long are your side pipes? and how did you measure?
Patriot says 50, 60 or 70" but doesn't indicate how they measure.
thanks

Was on vacation sorry mine are 70" measured from wheel well to wheel well. Figured the 70" would fit.

Here are the ones I have. Â Summit racing lists them, but says they are not available.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Thanks guys. Â Looking at these headers
" />
They are used but new, seller doesn't have a part number or any other information other than what's in the ad. Seems to know what he's talking about but really don't want to spend the money to discover I've got something that doesn't fit. Any body see any issues?
thanks

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
To update everyone,
Got the headers above, mid length chromed stainless (t-304) they fit like a glove.
Actually had to rerouted a break line to be able to install them.
Next is get the pipes on the car and drive down to the local exhaust shop for some plumbing between the two.
What's appropriate break-in practice for chromed headers?

Sounds good, thanks. I thought they would want / need a couple of heat cycles or 20 or 30 minutes or something like that.

Re: Headers, Side-pipes
Nope, that's for high-temp enamel to bake the paint on. Chrome needs nothing -- put 'em on and hit the street.

You, Me, Tom, and many others too . Did you guys trim the brackets? We managed to get these mounted in the upper holes, so there is a bout 1" of extra bracket just hanging there to lessen ground clearance.
