hello and thank you in advance for any help. I have a 73 malibu it had a bench i took it out and i am trying to put a 73 laguna bucket in it place but the hole doint line up wich i see in othere post and was told to use the first hole in on the driver side? It sits on the bump and looks to be really close to the door?and back hole will cover the seat belt hole so do i just plug that up and make a new location for the seat belt? would really help to see a picture or any photos form some of the people that have gone this route. really making me mad that i cant figure this out...

FYI swivel buckets use different seat belt retractors than bench seats, they don't mount to the top like the bench.

Here...these pics should make it a little clearer as to how the swivel buckets mount.  You utilize your existing front outer mounting holes.  You'll need to add the front and rear inners as shown.  Hard to see...but, there is a threaded stud welded to the rearward-most floor bracket support for the rear inner mounting point.  The rear outers are also added with the bracket shown.  And, finally...note the unique retractor used for swivel buckets.  If you look closely where the plastic trim flap is missing, you'll see a bracket with a mtg hole.  That goes over the rearward mtg hole on the floor bracket and held in place with a torx bolt.  The seat does sit very close to the door.  Hope this helps.

Also, disregard what's going on with the passenger side mtg points...primarily that raised black bracket in the rear.  The original mtg stud is still there under that bracket. Previous owner was doing something unusual there.

Looking at the front inner front and rear, I'm not sure where I would bolt the brackets to the floor, there doesn't seem to be much room to put bolts without them being in the way. Or is it just as easy to drill a hole and bring a bolt through the floor for the seat to attach to especially for the inner rears?

That's what I did, but be sure to use a couple large fender washers or some plate steel on the underside of the floor to spread the load out so it doesn't pull through the floor in an accident.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing.  I've got the seats and belts figured out, but when I put the console I have down, I've got some really big gaps between it and the carpet.  I was wondering is there a difference between '75, which is what the console is from and '77 the Malibu I've got?  The console looks right, I just can't find the right spot for it, so I can install the brackets.

A factory console car had a bracket welded to the floor that it bolted to in the front.  I noticed when I installed mine, the two holes behind the shifter (in the floor) were already there to locate the console.

I found all that, I have a gap big enough to put my fingers and my palm between the console and the carpet at the back corners, and haven't even added any brackets to the hump yet.

Sorry no pic, but is this normal or do I have something wrong?

Perfect thanks. That's exactly what mine looks like. I was beginning to think I'd bought a console that had been "modified".

thanks

Your welcome, maybe someone with a factory installed console will chime in.

Mine is factory installed and it's got a gap in the back corners you could throw a cat thru. GM's attention to fit of certain components left much to be desired
