Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Thanks for the pics. I should be able to use the gen 2 seat mounts. Trim them up and weld in. Needed a reference.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Ok, been working away at getting this car painted. Spray booth worked like a charm. I laid down 3 coats of activated Pro-Spray blue followed by a 4th coat to make sure my metallics are laying nice.
Almost 5 hours to tape off the stripes. 3 coats of pro-spray argent silver followed by a 4th dust coat again for the metallics just in case.
I let sit for 3 hours with the booth fans running.
Then I shot 3 coats of high solids polyurethane. 30 minute flash time between coats. Laid out nice but I did get a couple sags which I'm not worried about. I'll probably let this set up til thursday at which time I'll block the whole car out with 600 and shoot 2-3 flow coats of clear. That will really bring up the shine.
Very happy with the results. Here's some pics. Limey, you asked for color, so here it is. LOL

Wow! Nicely done! Can't wait to see it all back together. Awesome. Stripes are fantastic. We now have our own side stripe specialist.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Thanks to all for the compliments. I appreciate it. I've sprayed quite a few cars back in the late 80s through the mid 90s. Havent done a whole complete car since then so it feels good. Done plenty of parts, trailers and motorcycle tanks. Felt good to do an overall especially with high solids clear. Different animal to work with.
Ant, I'm still sticking with my Centerline auto drags. I only changed up the sizes. I used to run 3.5" rims up front with 10" out back. I now have 5.5" up front with some 205/75r15 which actually give me a slightly narrower section width than what I was running on my 3.5". So the fronts will appear slightly narrower than what I had. My rears are now 8.5" with a 5" offset which will tuck the tire in more.
Ant, your more than welcome to come by anytime.

Nice work. It Aint easy to get it right in a home inviroment. Modern paint is a sience to work with. I have painted my share of cars, all the sanding and work prior is Real tuft to get trough. But it is fun to paint, i always enjoyed spraying. Anyways congrats on a job Well done

The work you have put into this car has been fantastic. I have a question though: What measurements did you use for the SS stripe? Is there a template or somewhere written on the size and measurements of this stripe? It looks great!

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Ok, quick update. I wanted to get 3 more coats of clean on the car. So a day and a half of block sanding and it was ready. Paint laid out nice and a lot wetter looking. Probably will wait til spring to cut and buff.
Here she is yesterday.
And this is today. This is the paint all dry.
This is the last of the body work. I'm not doing this again. LOL.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Hood is from Fibermotive. I bought it in the mid 80's and then they went out of business. Its 4" high.

Very nice work Joe! You say this is without a cut and buff? WOW! With the ampunt of room that you had to work with in your booth, it must have been tough to do, but the results are outstanding!

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
The booth is 10 foot 8 inch wide. So a.little snug but not bad. I had the.booth on Craigslist and the.first guy to.come.by wants it. Just waiting for him to arrage a truck.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Todays completed project is trunk spatter paint. Zolatone Black/Aqua is what I used. Dries hard and NO CLEAR COAT needed. Great stuff. You need a spray gun with at least a 2.0 tip. A little bigger would be better. My 2.0 primer gun did the job. It dries quickly but Tech Sheet says 5-7 day cure. Hoping to remount my G70 tire back on the rally and get it and the jack back into the trunk.

Remounted the spare on the blasted and painted rim. Installed in trunk with jack.
