Chevelle 540 going on dyno tomorrow. Take a guess for power
The motor out of the chevelle is going for a tune up tomorrow. I am looking for a gain of 25-30 hp over how it came out of the car. Feel free to take a guess at the power numbers. The car weighs 3170 lbs and has gone 9.0s at 148.

A big block doesn't have a problem blowing past 500 HP I won't hazard a guess. Some older dynos only went to 999 HP, and a lot of big blocks are capable of running past that.
With that 9.0 time, it's making big power I would think.

We found 21 hp and it made,
910 hp at 7100 rpm
776 ft lbs torque at 5800 rpm.

Thanks I was actually surprised at how much it made. I was teasing my stepson telling him the Malibu is probably about 150hp. I told him we should put the 540 in the Malibu. And then let it eat the trans and the rear end real quick

lol. That is mind blowing power. Dream engine for me would be a fuel injected 450 hp 383 stroker with about the same torque and as low compression as I can get. Possibly supercharged, but I done want a whole in my hood. Daily driver pump gas style. Maybe its just a dream.

Well, that is one of the limiting factors with my Chevelle. I like the semi stock appearance of it, so I don't have a tall scoop on it. I cannot fit any super carb spacers on it, nor do I have a ram air effect from a scoop. A scoop alone is probably worth a tenth maybe more on my car at speed. But oh well. I like just trying to get this house to go fast. The Malibu will be my next engine project. That will probably be a 383 car for the torque.

My friend wants me to pull the hydraulic roller 355 out of the nova and put it in the malibu. It is a really good running motor and well built. But it is the numbers matching block to the nova. So it will be sold with the car when it goes.
