Needing bolts
OK, first off Somernites Cruise in Somerset Ky is on Saturday 5/25/13 and I am going to try and get the Chevelle in.
I want to take my family, need to get my seats and seat belts bolted back in. Front and Rear!
My question is can I replace these with just regular bolts or do they need to be a special kind and how do I know what bolt to buy if I don't have the originals for comparison?
Also the car is pulling hard to the right when I brake hard and I think one of the front brakes may be sticking from time to time. Can this be corrected or is a new caliper in order. (Can't afford right now)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and God bless,
Chris

Re: Needing bolts
I'm planning on using nuts and bolts to reinstall my seats. I haven't looked at any specific kinds yet though.
You might have some air in the brake lines, I would try bleeding them first to see if that helps the braking.

Re: Needing bolts
SEAT BELTS I would NOT REPEAT NOT trust anything but the designed seat belt bolts readily available at any parts store...... Seats I would take an old one and get grade 8 ones to replace them and you should be fine that's what I did.
I can take one of mine out of my seats ( getting new anyways ) and measure it at hardware store either tomorrow or Friday depending on when the rain quits YES RAINING AGAIN the flood waters just got back to somewhat normal around here

First make sure air pressure is the same on all four tires. Try jacking up the front and spinning the front tires, see if one has more resistance that the other. If one has more resistance, either the caliper is sticking, or the flex hose is blocked. Calipers and flex hoses are really inexpensive for g3's. Also sometimes if you disassemble the caliper and make sure all the slides are moving freely this may just fix your problem. Good luck. remember, if its a caliper problem, it would (more than likely) be the drivers side with the problem.

Re: Needing bolts
Agree with dynchel. If it pulls hard to the right, the left one is the culprit -- it's not doing its job.
Grade 8 bolts work fine -- the bolt will be stronger than the actual mount point. Go for a standard hex head from Lowes or HD -- the Torx are a PITA.

Re: Needing bolts
Use Grade 8 bolts. And this is NHRA legal. Use bolts that thread through the floor. I think they are 1/2" bolts. Get bolts long enough to protrude through and put a nut on the bolt. This is how the bolts are mounted in my Chevelle.

Re: Needing bolts
Thanks. I tried to get the original bolts out of my snake pit parts car, but could not get them out. I need to get one more seat belt out and get the bolts that hold down the front seat in the back. Dang rusty old snake filled piece of .... ugh... Sorry, just a little frustrated.

Re: Needing bolts
I had this issue when I tried to remove the seat brackets from my car. I used a torch and to heat the bolt up from underneath and it finally came out. The seat belt bolts were a different story, the torx heads were stripped so we cut them out of floor since we are replacing the body.

Re: Needing bolts
not a bad idea since the car they are coming out of has holes big enough to put a basketball through.

I like it here and always have, but its a growing city. I kinda liked it better when it was a little smaller and slower. A little more Mayberry like, ya know!

Re: Needing bolts
driveit, havent' seen Somerset in about 10 years, but it had grown up a bunch from when I was a kid for sure. When I was in high school in Mcreary County, if you needed a Wal-Mart trip..just head south a bit to Oneida TN, but if you REALLY wanted to live it up..we headed to Somerset, I mean a MALL?!?! That was big time living right there
OH, a quick a almost certain way to check your caliper is to take it off the bracket but leave the hose connected, remove the pads and try to compress the piston, some people use C clamps, I like those big C shaped welding Vice Grips...work like a charm..anyways, if it compresses relatively easy, caliper and hose is fine, and it's probably just the slides need cleaning up and lubricating. However, if it compresses with difficulty or not at all, the trick to check if it is the caliper or hose is to crack the bleeder. If it slides on back..you have a collapsed/defective hose, if it still won't compress...piston is seized. Still might need a hose at that point, but most likely just the caliper...BUT as mentioned above, hoses are cheap and good insurance. I replace them frequently, they are rubber after all
LIMEY that is a very generous offer and one that I wish I could take you up on. We have already booked a hotel in Chicago (read:pricey) and will be heading out 0 dark thirty they next day. Wish I had mentioned our trip earlier...that would have been good to hang out...oh, sorry, don't have the tail light However, All American Classics is just up the road in Vancouver, they are a bit pricey but they have ACRES of classics, and they will let you just wander. They told me to pack a lunch and come on up last time I called. I got a console for my Grand Prix from them a year or two back. www.allamericanclassics.com
Website says they have one for 35 bucks.

If you get to Indy I have two calipers I just took off my 77 you can have both for the 20 core charge. Nothing wrong with them just replacing the brake system. Car didnt pull at all when I took them off.
