Noob from Ohio. My second G3.
Hello everyone! I am so glad to find a forum dedicated to these fantastic cars! I am Bill, I'm a 39 year old Professional automotive technician and a GM fanatic for all of my life. I have owned dozens of GM cars and trucks over the years, but this is my second G3. I have ALWAYS wanted a 73 Chevelle. The unique body has a timeless design in my opinion, and one of the all time best looking cars ever made, especially the Laguna. I owned a 76 Malibu Classice coupe when I was a teen, that I kinda brought back from the dead, so I'm no stranger to these cars, but it has been 20+ years since I've touched one. Anyway enough about me, lets move on to my new prize...........
I just brought home a true barn find that I am about to start a long lasting relationship with. It's a 1973 Chevelle Malibu coupe that has been made into an SS clone. I'm not entirely sure of what direction I'm going to go with it, but I think a nice pro-touring setup will find it's way under the car. The car has a SUPER straight and clean body, swivell buckets, and a 1969 427 Corvette engine! I'm sure I will have some questions here and there during the build, so I will be in touch. For now, I hope you all enjoy the pics as much as I do the car. Let me know what you think.

Welcome,
That looks like a great start to make a cool street machine. I have a 454 in my 76 malibu classic, and these cars are great with a big block! I have had a few 76/77 malibu's but the 73 is the best style with those round tail lights.
Be sure to post pictures as you get it fixed up.
Thanks Graham

Hi Bill from the new guy in Iowa. I'm impressed with how clean & straight your barn find is. How did you find your '73 & is the paint original? Your 427 reminds of the Baldwin Motion Phase III '73 Chevelle!

Thanks, actually the car, well, the last owner, kinda found me. I was working on my 81 Z28 in my garage and the pizza delivery guy came pulling in with dinner (he's actually the owner of the local pizza shop and about 60 years old give or take a few years). We started talking about my Z and he mentioned having a 73 Chevelle that he might be interested in selling. He bought the car in 1994, drove it for a fair-weather cruiser for a few years until the 350 gave up. He painted the car himself (pretty good job as far as I can tell so far) in 1997. The color is a 1986 Oldsmobile Dark Cherry Red. The car was originally yellow, and it still wears 100% of it's original sheet metal! The car came to me with a ton of extra parts, hood, headlight buckets, grille, complete interior less the seats including a nice a/c dash as well as all of the parts to add a/c except the compressor, even a complete set of turbine 1 wheels, spare tail lights, wiring, the list goes on. I just got the engine disassembled and discovered it's true configuration.....it's a 1974 454 block that's been bored .030 over with a late 60's 396 crank and heads. This configuration does make it a 427 (technically a 433 with the overbored cylinders).
Thank you all for the warm welcomes! I will keep you posted with updates as the build progresses.

Well, The block is at the machine shop getting bored .060" over. I got most of the engine stuff ordered, with any luck i'll be assembling the engine next week and then start on the transmission. I just picked up a 96 Impala SS rear sway bar and close ratio steering gear for it. I can't wait to get this car done!

Welcome, from Michigan. Great looking Chevelle ! I had a '73 years ago. Interesting combo there, to end up as a 427 !
