that looks like a 73 monte i once bought. paid 45.00 for it,it had buckets and power locks/windows,but body was trashed.

I am pretty sure it is a true SS. I'm going through some title issues with nj dmv and havn't looked up body tag yet but title says SS and its a 454 car. What is the best way to tell if its TRUE SS?

Never seen a title with a trim level on it. How does the title read? Whats the 5th digit of the VIN number? Should be one of these letters.

D = 250 cid L-6 1 BC
F = 307 cid V-8 2 BC
H = 350 cid V-8 2 BC
K = 350 cid V-8 4 BC
Y = 454 cid V-8 4 BC

Do you have the black trimmed tail lights? Just curious if you have a flat black tail panel also. Thanks

Title reads Year 1973 Make: CHE Model: SS Body type: 2 Dr. The 5th is a Y on vin tag but title says X and 2nd digit on on vin tag is D and title has E. But year,plant code and sequential serial # all match. It has stainless trim around tail lights.

1D37...first four are just
1=Chev
D=Malibu
37= Coupe

x vs. y prob some hack at the DMV not paying attention when entering the vin.

Interesting! Never seen a title with a trim level as a model. Other than decoding the vin you wouldnt know if it was a camaro, malibu or nova SS. Pretty interesting. Cool to see you have the Y code on the vin for the big block. On the tail lights there were 3 types. The difference was right behind the stainless trim on the edge of the tail light. Meaning the sides of the tail light as if you put your hand inside a coffee can and touched the sides. Normal chevelles just had the red plastic. The SS had flat black in that area and the Lagunas has chrome on the sides. Very cool, good luck with it.

The manufacturer of origin title wouldn't have SS listed as a model.
It has a replacement title.
When you do a replacement title, the DMV asks you to fill in the info, and then they go outside and compare it with the vehicle.
Other than the VIN and color, they have no idea.
