Oil Pan Selection - Help
Guys - I need help picking out an oil pan with increased capacity. Here's my problem. I need it to clear both the passenger side Hooker Super Comp header and not hang lower than the motor crossmember. I would just take some measurements of the current one in the car, but it's NOT in the car right now. The motor is being torn apart as I type, and I have no way of taking measurements on it.
Does anyone have any measurements of the distance from the rear of a stock oil pan to the back of the cross member? Also, maybe a measurement of the distance between the headers perpendicular to the oil pan? Or even some photos? I looked through all of mine, but don't have any photos from under the motor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you go with a dry sump and external tank like these?

Re: Oil Pan Selection - Help
I don't think I want to go the dry sump route right now. 2 grand on an oiling system seems a bit much even if it's a great way to go.

The pan on my Malibu is a Moroso 6 quart, and is even with the bottom of the front cross member, 8 1/2 inches deep.

GO TO SUMMIT AND PICK OUT WHAT YOU NEED, MILODON MAKES A CRAP LOAD OF PANS THAT WILL WORK, I HAVE THE BB 31555, WITH THE KICK OUT ON THE BOTTOM, AND NO PROBLEMS WITH R&R ON THE STARTER AND I HAVE THE SUPER COMP.HOOKER HEADERS. YOU'LL HAVE TO PUT THE MOTOR IN FIRST AND THEN THE TRANS., IT DOES GET A LITTLE TIGHT. AS FAR AS THE CROSS MEMBER TO PAN, (MUTUALLY THE SAME) IF YOU NEED A PIC I'LL GET ONE FOR YOU !Malicruiser wrote:His is a SMALL BLOCK.2fat2fly wrote:BIG BLOCK OR SMALL BLOCK, NEED TO KNOW74Malibu383 wrote:Guys - I need help picking out an oil pan with increased capacity. Re: Oil Pan Selection - Help
Kyle - Thanks for the photos. Helps a lot!
Pila - Thanks for the sump measurement. Appreciate it!
2Fat - Thanks for responding as well.
Looking at the Moroso 20205:
Moroso #710-20205
Street/Strip Oil Pan
• SBC 1986 and Later Block w/ One-Piece Rear Main Seal
• Wet Sump
• 7 Quart Capacity
• 8-1/4" Deep
• 10-1/4" Kick-out
• Steel
Going off of Pila's measurement, and Kyle's photo, I'm hoping this will work.
Thanks for all of your help!
