Biggest Headers on a G3
While at Norwalk a few weeks ago I found a crack in one the header tubes. These are extremely old headers 1 and 3/4 inch tubes, Long story short I purchased a set of Hooker Super Comp 1 and 7/8inch tubes where the Pass side goes over the frame. I havent tried to get the Drivers side on yet but Passenger side is being difficult. Any one know if the motor can just be jacked up or do i need to put the motor on a hoist and pull it up a few inches? Thanks

Re: Biggest Headers on a G3
Might as well just undo the trans mount & one engine mount at a time to get them in. I say one at a time so it's easier to line the mount back up. Don't bolt the headers on until you get both down in the bay.
Also, are you trying to go from the top or bottom? I found that going from the top & snaking them in worked after massaging one of the primaries on the passenger side, but then again I'm not working with an OBB. Driver side was cake. Seemed like there was more room.

Oldsmobile headers are a PITA on our cars I had to lift both sides up set header in and put motor back down in bay then mount the headers on the block tighten then done

Re: Biggest Headers on a G3
Ok, I did my inch a 3/4 just by jacking the car up and sliding them in but these 1 and 7/8s are enormous. And last time i did these the drivers side was great idk how with the steering column it looks tighter but its not. I already got the starter dropped and the Oil filter and mount.

I've got 1 7/8" Super Comps on mine as well, and yes they are enormous. I ended up having to go with a mini starter to make room.

Re: Biggest Headers on a G3
Sorry, no, it's a small block. My starter is on the passenger side. Swaping the original out for a mini starter was my solution.

Re: Biggest Headers on a G3
Why 1 7/8" instead of the 1 3/4 " ?? Seems like the 1 3/4' would be better on a stock engine ( it if is) Bigger pipes in many cases don't do as well as small ones. Just wonderin'.......

Re: Biggest Headers on a G3
Well I got them for next to nothin and they may be a little to big for my application but who knows when I may need them. My 1 3/4 were old as dirt and I didnt really want to weld them.. again, lol. Right now the Motor is pretty much stock with a bigger cam and aluminum intake and Holley 850. Runs 12.90s in the quarter.
