X pipe
when i put the new engine in the malibu, ill probably go with the custom exhaust too. oldtimers dont have to pass emission control tests over here, so its going to be a straight pipe without cat or mufflers (havent really decided on that yet, but im pretty sure). id like to put a X pipe under there too. where is the best place to do that? i was thinking behind the tranny crossmember, but im not sure if that aint too far from the headers. does anyone have any pictures of that, or maybe any advice?
thanks

that is one of the options for me as well, but i read in the john ligenfelters book that x-pipe is somehow better. i still have a couple of months to decide, so ill do some more research. im guessing that lambda sensor should go behind x or h pipe, especially after i put a dual plane intake on it.
ill ask another question in this thread as i dont want to litter the forum with a bunch of new threads: can i fit 6" olds connecting rods into a 305 and if yes, how much would that boost compression.
i really should be studying for exams instead of thinking about the car, but it aint as simple as it sounds...

Re: X pipe
my pipes are bent together right at the tranny mount. looks like the cut the inner side of the pipe off and welded the 2 together. sounds good too

Re: X pipe
hmm, too bad. i found a set for 50$ on ebay, if anyone needs them i can post a link. custom pistons would be too expensive.
i just need 3 stock rods for the 305, the previous owner sold them separately and thought that if i get the whole set i wont need to find ones that match the originals.

It can be done & Dave Vizard shows how to do it in one of his books. I remember reading it on a budget 406 build that he did. I'll have to look for specifics though.

Re: X pipe
My system is stainless, and I don't know if anyone has a stainless X pipe. Haven't looked too hard yet. Summit may have one like that.

Re: X pipe
Yeah, looked on their site. Looks like what I could use. I'll have to measure how much room I have for the mufflers, behind the X pipe assembly.
