3spd. manual transmission shifted on the steering column, if I remember 1st was all the way up like Park in a automatic, then 2nd was all the way down(low in an auto), third was in the middle and push towards the dash. Reverse, in the middle and pull towards you. Its been awhile.

Mine is:
Pull the shifter toward you and down for first.
Away from you and up for second.
Away from you and down for third.
Pull toward you and up for reverse.
Neutral in the middle.

That may be the same way my 69 Chevy pickup was, I drove it daily for about 9 months back in '95.
An H pattern would make more sense than the + pattern I decribed.

Where did that copper Monte end up? Parts car?
[/quote]
i bought it to fix it off fleebay for 200 out of PA, and had it delivered for 225.no motor or trans, but car was all there. some guy noticed i was selling parts on fleebay and asked if he could see what kind of stuff i had. just so happened that the guy showed up the day the car was delivered and bought the complete interior, including all the brackets and seat belts for 500. i had no intentions of selling it,but knew where another one was. so i sold the interior and parted the car out.
the front clip went on chris' monte.
at one time i had 4 montes in my yard. 3-73's and a 74

Thanks Chris for the pics, I love your yard ornaments. When I was a kid my neighbors would call the city all the time for cars in the yard(Chicago). Wish I had more space now to shop for parts cars.
At least the copper Monte went to good use.

Thanks everyone... I am going to check on the Monte and do some Phoenix junkyard diving the first week in March, I need a passenger door (full of bondo) and a disc brake Caprice 9C1 rearend.
I looked at two green 73's in Phoenix before I picked up this copper one.
Both had swivel buckets, one had white interior&top and no motor trans for $600. With a few bullet holes in the body.
The other had green interior and over 200k miles, the guy owned it since '74 and he said his price was "around 5K".
The second has been on Ebay from last Oct -Jan and it has sold a few times for $17-1800 and then it gets relisted.

Re: Introducing me&my project 73 Monte Carlo (if I can get the pictures to load)
Man the time flies by! Picked up the Monte week of 11/13-11/19/11 after almost 2 years without seeing it. Picked up a LS1/4l60e for the swap in Detroit last month.
96 Caprice 9c1 gu5 3.23 disc rearend, gas tank, front 12" brakes, 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee 12.7 steering box, and hydroboost all from Phoenix pull-a-parts. Long 34 hr. drive home, junk rental trailer toasted a rim and lug nuts in AZ @1600 miles from home.
Now I just need time, money and more garage space for the build.

The Monte got put on the far back burner when I got my 60 day layoff notice last spring. Starting a new job in Jan. so I should have some Monte funds now.

Graham, is that Monte from Phoenix, AZ?

Yeah it is from Phoenix, it was an ebay purchase. You hear some horror stories about ebay car purchases but this car was in better shape than I expected.
