Engine ground strap
Whats up guys? Wondering where you guys think is the best place to is to mount up the engine ground strap? My car doesnt have one, and I suspect it possibly could be affecting my alternator not charging properly. I have a new 100 amp alt and my battery has tested ok, yet Im only getting about 11 volts while Im running. Anyone have any experiences similar to this?

Re: Engine ground strap
yes easiest is fom the one of the holes in the back of the head. i grounded pretty much everything to the motor there. then ran a gound strap from there to the firewall

Re: Engine ground strap
Jeff try the head not the header bolt, I put mine back side of pass side head for if I am thinking right.... the header gasket will slow some of that down ?? Am I correct on that one ??

Re: Engine ground strap
My main battery cable goes from the battery to the front of the engine, then has a smaller wire going from battery to the core support, No problems here.

Re: Engine ground strap
I had that system on my 70 Impala and the headlights would dim down real low and then get brighter. It was because of that wimpy raggedy wire going to the core support. Re: Engine ground strap
I currently have my negative battery cable going to my engine block too. Then I added the strap from the header bolt to the firewall. Ill try having it go to the head instead of the firewall like Limey mentioned.

Re: Engine ground strap
heads should have holes in back put short bolt in run from there to the fire wall. lots of gms had this. header dont do much as stated because of the gasket ads resistance

Re: Engine ground strap
Just thought of something, probably shouldve mentioned in the first place, but there are aluminum heads on this engine, should that effect the way it grounds?

Re: Engine ground strap
So why not hit it from the block where the engine mount is & run it to the frame? Seems like a viable alternative if you make the ground strap long enough to compensate for engine movement.

Re: Engine ground strap
ground straps from advance auto are are cheap and like 12 or 18 inches

Re: Engine ground strap
in front of the engine under the alt, should be 2 threaded holes (air pump).just bolt the cable to there and the other end could go to an already threaded hole in the frame (like the pos battery clamp).
