Sorry bud, but if you are serious then stop looking cause it won't happen. Look for a 91-96 Caprice & you will find one that cheap, but not an Impala SS.

You're right. I gave 3500 for mine, but I bought it from a friend, and had to Jimmy him down from 5000. It needs a lot of work.
I saw a nice one a couple of weeks ago for 7500 with no motor or trans.
You can find a Caprice 9C1 (Police Package) for a lot less, with the same motor as the SS.

A clone, I could see going for around $3,000- $3,500. Of course with 5 days left to bid, this one will jump to at least 4k.
RC! Long time no see buddy how you been?

I got a plan. Should be recovering next week I hope. I'm getting out from under a car payment & it'll free up about $300 a month . Wifey also got a part-time job to help out, so we'll see.

Re: help i am looking for a 96 impala ss
Not really new, but here's a short list of cars that are (or could be) fast & cheap.
Third gen F Bodies
Fox Body Fords
First gen turbocharged Eclipses
LoL apparently Geo Storms
I'm sure there are more, but this is a short non-rice list. For a DD, don't worry about fast, get something that saves gas so you have more $$$ for your projects. Get a Metro or ride a motorcycle.

If you're worried about your car being a gas guzzler, have you ever considered how long it would take for the purchase of another vehicle to start saving you money versus what you have? $3,000 can buy quite a bit of gas.

Re: help i am looking for a 96 impala ss
I know Dan has his doubts, but I've owned nearly as many Eclipses as I have Chevelles. Stick with a 90-94 DOHC car & you won't have any troubles. I literally ran one into the ground...err uh... culvert... & it still got back up running until some dumb teenage girl rear-ended me at 35mph. I walked away from the accident & drove the car for two more weeks all crunched up until the insurance company picked it up. I had one with over 200,000 miles & it still ran like new. 95-99 models are good too, but 95 - early 96 had crankshaft problems. Expect gas mileage to be around 30mpg & expect turbo 5 speeds to run high - mid 14s at the track. Stock.

Sounds like the owner doesn't know what he/she wants out of it. It surely wouldn't hurt to low ball an offer & see what response you get.

Re: help i am looking for a 96 impala ss
If you don't mind my two cents, I couldn't ask for a better DD than my Monte Carlo. 95-99's are nice cars. You can pick up a decent one for around three grand. I got mine for $1800 and spent about 2 summers getting it to "where I want". They're cheap and easy to work on. The 3.1 is a good engine. Just have to care for it correctly, like any other car you drive. Gets good gas mileage too. My record is over 300 miles on a full tank. I would stay away from the 95-97 Z34 with a 3.4 DOHC. I have heard they are rather troublesome. Also the 98-99 Z34 with the 3800 Series II. That's a GREAT(and fairly quick!) motor, my mom's 2003 Monte Carlo SS/HS has that motor, but it's somewhat of a gas hog. Stay with an LS with a 3.1
If you're one of those people who "poo poo's" FWD cars, I am sorry for my suggestion, ignore it. I live in Michigan, and Winters are nearly impossible with a rear wheel drive car.

Re: help i am looking for a 96 impala ss
In all honesty, it's considered a "performance" car. The factory manuals all recommend premium gas in them. You can use lower grades of fuel, but it would never run as good as it would with the premium stuff. And, being a larger vehicle that weighs quite a bit, gas mileage might not be very good...Google came up with a couple of things that say around 17 mpg. That might be optiimistic though, but it might be better mileage then what you're getting now. It's totally up to you.

Wow! You gave us almost 4 whole hours to answer your question in before you blew your top. If I needed a car and had the money I would grab that last listing, I even love the color. JB

Re: help i am looking for a 96 impala ss
Put 2.73 gears in your chevelle, change the plugs and get the carb tuned in.
17mpg in no time for only a couple hundred.
Take your mom's 3K and have her invest it for you.
