New Project Material
Alright, so I decided to break down and buy this wagon. Like I said before, it's in very good shape, and only really needs a couple things to make it practically perfect. It's a 77 Malibu Classic Wagon with around 43,000 miles on the clock and it drives like it's brand new (whether that's good or bad, you decide). What am I gonna do with it? I have no idea, but for now I'm gonna drive it a little bit and enjoy it!

You should make a Laguna Wagon out of it, put some surf boards on top and Call it Laguna Beach Wagon!

Dude...that's awesome. I'd leave it just the way it is. HEY. It's the same color as your 74!

Not enough wagons around, a lot of cool potential there.

Re: New Project Material
That's clean! From the way you were worried about the weatherstripping, I figured it was a project car or something. I say get some wire wheels & maybe a couple of minor upgrades. Leave it a cruiser.

about 16 years ago, there was a 77 mali wagon here by me that was the same color but with black swivel bucket seat interior.the guy bought it new and ordered it that way.it looked pretty cool.
there was a 73 SS bucket seat 4 speed wagon running around the internet. i think it was blue with blue interior.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it's way more brown than my '74. The '74 is more of a metallic burgundy color. This one is more like a metallic brown that they would get from the factory I'm guessing.

Yeah, the weatherstripping was definitely in better shape when I examined it more closely, and it seems that the hatch seals are more universal than I originally thought, so I think I can make some made for trunks work pretty nicely.Rago wrote: That's clean! As far as it being a cruiser, I'm actually gonna make it my daily driver. It's gonna get a set of rallyes (go figure! ) and it'll be lowered a couple inches all the way around. So far I'm in love with this thing!!!

I got it for $3500. I figured it's a good deal since I will never see another one like it!

Re: New Project Material
Ok, might need a little help here. Anyone have any idea where I could find a fuel tank sending unit for a wagon? It seems like it's pretty much a this-model-only kind of part. I've been searching for the last day or so practically everywhere and I can't find one

Wonder why it would be different than a Malibu or Elky unit?

The tank is VERY different from the sedans, coupes, and El Caminos. The wagon's tank sits up in the back of the driver side panel and is a har-to-get-out pentagon shape. The sending unit itself is....certainly unique. It's about twice the length of the other cars' sending units. Absolutely no one makes them, and most places don't even acknowledge the station wagon as a body style.
If anything, I'll see if I can replace all of the parts on it that I can, and see if that works.

Re: New Project Material
If you can't find a unit, could you switch to a different tank altogether? I wonder if like a newer
small P/U truck tank might fit? A lot of them used to fit weird like that.
