station wagon tailgate release Empty station wagon tailgate release

Post by dhw3971 Tue Sep 10, 2024 11:00 am

Fellow wagoneers: after years of gradually worsening, the electric tailgate release has stopped working correctly. It now only releases half-way and requires the key to fully unlock and open. I've examined it in the past but can't see a way to make adjustments...does anyone know how?

great! thanks for the tip! With luck, replacing that solenoid will be all that's required.

Mine kind of does the same thing, although the solenoid is plenty powerful. I simply trigger the release switch a second time and the hatch will fully release.

I looked into the issue a few years ago, but my memory is foggy. I do believe I determined that the hatch didn't have enough "spring" to it when initially opening, so the latch wouldn't fully release because the striker was still pushing on the latch.
