Another buyer beware – cotton air filter elements
Three years ago, I bought a reusable air filter from JEGS, part # 555-50012. This past weekend, I went to clean and re-oil it and discovered this:
I had been using the same K&N filter on my car for more than 20-years without any issues. When I swapped out the intake manifold for a taller one, I had to get an air filter element that was shorter than the one I had so as to maintain hood clearance. So, since I was ordering other parts from JEGS at that time, I ordered this air filter element; they claim "Made in usa with high quality components and assembly" and it was much less expensive than the K&N equivalent. Well, I guess I got what I paid for.
That same evening, I ordered the K&N version.
