Re: 73 ss wagon
roswell alien museum
So after the first 30 or so miles of driving it started tapping really loud, i assumed it was a collapsed lifter. it would go away after a few minutes of driving, but each time it took a little longer. I added some STP, and some marvel mystery oil, and it seemed to help for a while but the noise never quite went away. the car seemed to be running ok so we kept going. I had to add about 1/2gal of oil per day to keep oil at an adequate level.
we made it all the way to covington lousiana when it started smoking heavily from the passenger tail pipe and making a nasty racket so we took the next exit and checked it out in a parking lot.
heres what i found
luckily there was an autozone 2 miles from the next hotel and they had rockers in stock.
we have gone about 250 miles since the fix and its running pretty well, the noise has gone away but it runs a little rough. I didnt adjust the rocker properly so that's probably it. i didnt try and dont care to. all i care about is getting it to florida.
the odometer rolled 99999 miles today but one of the nines stayed so now it has 9000 miles on it.
surprisingly we have seen as much at 18.5mpg on a couple tanks of gas so far.

Re: 73 ss wagon
i was initially pretty disappointed with the cars condition, never really mad but i was looking forward to a mate for the green one, which is significantly better condition.
im not sure yet of the fate of this one but ive been thinking a lot about another turbo 5.3 and t56. i definitely wont worry about messing up a pristine piece of gm history

We as car people seem to do some crazy road trips for cars that we really want. Don't we? haha Hope you have a safe rest of your trip.
Didn't you sell Wanda back to it's previous owner?

If you had stayed on the Southern Route - could have stopped at the newly revamped "Thing" Exit 322 I-10 in Arizona. A real tourist trap.
