Laguna Roll Pans

On FB page "1973-77 Chevelle, SS and Laguna Owners Group" Aaron Thompson from Bryan TX posted some pic's of his Laguna which he made a very nice roll pan replacing the rear bumper.
Here is a pic of the back of his Laguna:
Wondering if anyone has done this or knows if there is anywhere that makes these? Aaron made this one, superb job, looks great!

I saw that car on YouTube the other night and was smitten. He had to make that as I began a lengthy search and found nothing. I think I am going to try my hand at it.

If you go to that FB page, Aaron has a post, part of the pictures show some steps as he was fabricating it.
I want to do one on the '76 Laguna I just picked up, but right now I am recuperating from taking the Telstar wheels off it. It's about 20 degrees outside, dry, going to storm tomorrow so I decided to pull the wheels off and put some crappy old wheels/tires on it while it sits outside covered up. The first wheel I went to take off was one of the back ones, one of the lug nut studs decided to back out of the axle and was spinning, only way to get it off was with a die grinder, had to be careful, but its cold enough that the condensation in the air line was freezing so every few minutes I had to take the air line back inside to let the condensation warm up enough so I could get air pressure! WHAT A PITA! After starting the wheel removal I just decided I was going to complete the job NO MATTER WHAT OBSTACLE GOT IN MY WAY short of a nuclear holocaust!

Man that’s cold. I have been there before but in 100 degree Houston. No fun either way. Good luck.

I am friend's with Aaron and he will have one made for you and you pay for ship or pick up IIRC was $350 and done

I asked Aaron about making one, he said something about he was getting a patent? So he makes these? Any pictures of how they come? Trying to figure out what I need to do once I get it?

Very smooth looking ! I wonder if there any legal issues with this ? A friend got stopped by the cops with his S10 pickup for not having a rear bumper. Turned out that before a certain year, it wasn't required (??) Strange..
I believe that if I had the roll pan, I would need nerf bars to protect it !!

My '86 Silverado has welded in steel roll pans front and rear. I love the look. Did your friend get pulled over in Michigan?

Hey. Any news on when he will have some ready for sale? I just purchased the rear brackets to sink my bumper in but I think I would still rather do the roll pan.

There are required equipment on all vehicles used on the roads in United States. On our cars there is definitely laws about the bumpers. Thats why we have the energy absorbing front and rear bumpers. They are required equipment starting in 73 for the front and 74-77 for the rear as well. Just like you have to have side marker lights on all cars starting in 68, reverse lights started in 64 if I remember correctly, seats with headrests starting in 68, third brake light in 86. The laws are on the books, I've read them dozens of times over the years.
And the items are required by Federal Law, so ALL cars int he country have to have them. Has nothing to do with each state. Whether you get pulled over and the laws enforced, its up to the cop. To me, anything missing visually is an easy reason to pull someone over.
And for the guys with 75 and later that are supposed to have catalytic converters, messing with Federal emissions on a car carries hefty fines in the US and can have your vehicle registration revoked on the spot.
Speaking from experience, studying and training. But to each his own.
