Re: Interesting
Looks like a nicely done car. Personally I absolutely hate the wheels...but to each his own.

Re: Interesting
Well it clearly appears he has it all sorted out for what he has, but I really wonder how much more would be in it if he lost the wheels, dropped it, and got the car to do some weight transferring. Other wise, a nice looking car less the wheels. And man does that thing haul some A$$. 12.16? WOW!

Big tire cars make fast street cars. I learned that from watching Street Outlaws.

Re: Interesting
When they refer to big tire, they are referring to the width, not the rim size.
This guy really wasn't able to do much of a burn out to warm up the tires. But then again, those tires probably aren't meant for having much traction to begin with.

I thought I saw 12.76 for the Malibu (vs a 13.16 for the Monte Carlo).
I hesitate to mention that my car went 12.25 - with the original 454 (naturally aspirated).

Keith, I read your magazine article and see you put the car on a weight loss program. What gear? Was the original 454 modified? Â I don't want to come across as questioning you, Just curious, looking for some advice. If the stars align just right, I can barely crack off a 12.60, (moderate/mild 454) My car weighs 4200 with me and half tank of gas, and thats with aluminum wheels, intake, radiator, & mini starter. I'm still running the AC. Alot of my problem is the 60' which I'll try to sort out this year. high 1.8's is my best.
As far as the guy in the vid, Those wheels killed any kind of gear unless he's got 5.13 or something. Probably an easy 11 sec car with normal wheels & tires.

My car was 4100 lbs new; lightest it's ever been was 3550 (without me in it). Current weight is about 3750 due to heavier block (the bow tie block is about 50 lbs heavier than a production MkIV), added safety structure and full exhaust.
Original weight loss consisted of glass front bumper, glass hood, removal of the guard rails and structure inside the doors, trimming the box section of the frame forward of the front wheels and rearward of the rear wheels, removal of the swivel portion of the bucket seats, aluminum heads, intake and water pump, etc.
The original 454 has never had the heads off (if I remember correctly). That was with a Holley spreadbore rather than the quadrajet, and I believe I had a 4.10 gear installed.

Re: Interesting
I like everyone else here have to say it's a nice ride, has had a lot of work and a lot of time invested in it. It goes like stink, and yes to each his own (I'm not a fan of the wheels, on that car, but they are nice)
