That used to seem like a lot of money...until the prices from Just Dashes started flirting with $2000.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
I have a 73 non cracked air dash that I'm gonna put in my monte this winter. ive had it for 30+ years.. I also still have my original dash from my 73 monte I took out in 2003. both are mint,i would probly want 800 for mine also. they aint easy to find.. 73 being one year only is the other factor.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
Here's a question. How common is the tab for the trunk release buttom in the glove box. I've parted out (9) 73 chevelles and have only seen the tab once which was 3 weeks ago. How common is it ? My SS didnt have one and my replacement dash doesnt have it either. Both of my dashes were NON a/c.

Not sure what you mean by "tab". All I've ever seen was a hole drilled directly above the glove box light switch for the trunk release button. That's also how my factory installed button on the Monte is positioned. For what it's worth, my observation in the junk yards is that very few Montes/Chevelles seemed to have come with power trunk option. See it all the time on Grand Prixs, however.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
I've only seen that hole on one 73 dash. Just wondering if it was common for 73 dashes. But looking at the dash in the auction, it is two piece and the top and bottom is a different color. Maybe the bottom is from a later model dash.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
The hole was not present unless the car came with the power trunk option. As I said, the cars with this option were very few and far between. Come to think of it, don't think I've even seen a Chevelle/Malibu in the yards with it.

Ok, so there were two models of lower dashes? One with the hole and one without ?

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
Never really thought about it...but, I'd say that is probably correct since I doubt someone on the assembly line drilled the hole if the car was ordered with the trunk button.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
I had 2 '73 G3s, a Chevelle, and an Elco, but didn't realize that the dash was different !!
The trunk release is handy, and I would think that those parts are on other GM cars also.
Hope all you folks have a nice Thanks Giving !

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
If you need something to go in it, this is not a bad price, uncut, considering the free shipping.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
The problem with buying a used dash is the material that it was made of is now 40 years old , so if you are going to invest big money in a used dash you have to remember just the little variations in the install can twist it or turn it just a little more than the original car and put stress in new areas that are now dry and brittle and prone to cracking. Just my opinion, but I think I would invest in the Just Dashes part just because it is supposedly better material and will probably hold up much better.Again , just my personal opinion.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
Valid argument...but, few people have (or, can justify) $1800-$2000 to go the Just Dashes route. My advice with a used dash install is to do it on a warm, sunny day so the vinyl is as flexible as possible. Then, treat it with a conditioner to help preserve it.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
I would contact the Seller and ask him if he would send it directly to Just Dashes for you if you bought it directly from him. But, first had better confirm with Just Dashes that they will ship to France. Also, I see where the Seller's shipping cost is based on shipping via Greyhound or Amtrak rail...unless, directed otherwise at additional cost. Better discuss that with Just Dashes as I doubt they are willing to send one of their employees to a Greyhound or Amtrak depot to claim the box once it arrives.

Hi Mcarlo77 ! And thank for your answer !
I gonna write a mail to Just Dashes about that !
Anyway there no problems for Just Dashes because they just have to send the dash to Corona, where a friend of me who work in car parts exportation will recover the dash and send me by container

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
I am curious, does any body know, does just Dashes charge less for a relatively good dash with say one crack compared to one with many cracks???

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
Guys, I managed to contact the seller to tell him I'm ok to buy it, and I explained to him about the shipping and Just Dashes.
Here is his answer:
_"I revised the listing - the only way to accept your offer was to put an inflated shipping charge in - my expectation,is that you will revise the shipping to the ca. address you said you use when you purchase, and the shipping rate should change to the flat rate listed - let me know - thank you"
Now, what i'm suppose to do ??? (I'm french and sometimes I have trouble understanding your language But I'm getting better with you! lol ! )
Thank for your help guys !

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
That response is a model of unclarity. I suggest messaging him back, stating the address you wish him to send the dash to, and ask for a total cost. Then you can evaluate with no confusions.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
I agree. You really didn't need to mention is was ultimately going to Corona for shipping overseas. All he needs to be concerned with is that you want it shipped to Just Dashes. I've shipped several dashes half way across the country and it's certainly not difficult for him to get a shipping cost using FedEx or UPS website.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
quick question- can you convert a 1973 a/c dash to a non a/c dash? or are there distinct part differences? i ask because I'm wondering if I find a good 73 parts car that has a good dash and it happens to be a/c, my car is non a/c

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
Well...the obvious difference is with the right side vent. Aside from that, you could connect your existing non-a/c ducting and controls and be good to go.

Re: 1973 dash on ebay
i don't have one in front of me- are you saying the right side (passenger) vent has a cutout of the the lower dash to accomodate the a/c duct? if so, it's a shame it wasn't just bolted below but then again they wanted legroom as well. Thanks.
