Re: Door latch mechanism
They're all the same. But, I only have a couple of RH ones on hand. If nobody steps up, contact me and I'll pull one next trip to the yards.

Re: Door latch mechanism
Thank you very much, I will let you know. I have a couple people sending me some pics of what they have.
Here's what happened to mine. I have my whole car apart, ready for dustless blasting hopefully on Aug. 5th. I was making some wood door panels to protect the insides and not get any abrasive in the door. Then I remembered that I wanted to remove my latch mechanisms and clean them. I got both of them out, soaking and brushing the pass. one and it came out great. Started doing the drivers one and noticed that the latch opening "roof" had what looked like a crack. It wasnt a crack but thin metal where the striker was hitting up high. I figure this was in the mid 80's because I bought new hinges from GM in '88 and put them in without a second thought.
So I'm thinking my latch is shot. I posted up here and messaged some people on the net. While waiting for a response I went to look at the latch. After looking it over, I took a scrap piece of the correct gauge sheet metal, cut it to size and hit it with the MIG. Tacked it in. Ran a bead on it and I think its good to go. Finished cleaning it and its perfect. I'll be using it but I'll still be looking for a spare.
Welding came out nice.

Re: Door latch mechanism
Joe.My drivers side one is still screwed up. I'm afraid to lock the door because I can't get it open again. I would have to take the door panel off and knock that bar down with a hammer and screwdriver. On my 73. I'm going to just get a new mechanism

Re: Door latch mechanism
ant7377,
Good afternoon, I was reviewing messages and saw that you may be needing a driver's door latch mechanism.
I have a complete door with latch, rods, and all hardware from a manual lock and window regulator off of a 73 Monte Carlo.
If interested, you can send a PM and I can respond with a picture or two (would still need to be removed from the door)
Thanks - Eric

Re: Door latch mechanism
Ant, if yours is worn on the top part of the mechanism from sagging hinges, you have two choices. Get another mechanism or take yours out and bring it by and i'll MIG it up for you. Is the bar you have to "hit" down the moving part that hooks onto the striker ??

Re: Door latch mechanism
Joe. No sagging at all. It's the piece that is sort of a half of a square. Seems like some thing is worn out. I've opened it before by giggling the inside door handle while pulling on the lock rod. I posted it on here before but you know what happens, you forget about it then it happens again.

Re: Door latch mechanism
I say take it out, see if it could be welded. If not find a used one. Let me know if you need me to take a look or text me a pic.

Re: Door latch mechanism
If the 3 screws are too tight you might need to hit them with an impact driver. The kind that you hit with a hammer and you can change to different tips. I have one if you need to borrow it.
I also give them a quick tap when reinstalling the screws.
