rear shock upper bolts
I just posted in the wrong category. Does anyone know the trick to get the upper bolts out to replace the rear shocks?
Thanks
Thanks

No trick that I know of. I seem to remember it being very straight forward. I used a box end wrench so there shouldnt be a chance of rounding it off.

I thought it was straight forward, too. I did round it off, though, and it was the easiest to access! I'm not sure how I'll get in there to cut it off.

Maybe a small pair of vice grips to grip the head ??

Only way to Get it is a Bolt out Kit You will never be able to get at it for a Sawzall or air grinder Short of Taking rear control arms off

Re: rear shock upper bolts
I crawled under mine to see. Can't you get a 6 pt socket and extension and take them out? There's plenty of room. Are you seeing a bolt head when you look up? Did someone put them in backwards? from the top down? I replaced mine a few years back, 10 minutes a side. You are talking about the upper bolts on the rear shocks?

Also, maybe take the nut off the bottom of the shock, pull the shock off the stud, then jack it up and put a jack stand under the frame IN FRONT OF that rear wheel and support the car up high. That rear spring should fall out giving you plenty of room to do what you need.

Re: rear shock upper bolts
If I am thinking about the same bolt you are talking about (it has been quite a while since I did the shocks on my car), I was told by an old mechanic the trick was to use a distributor wrench http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Performance-Tool-W1189C-Distributor-Hold-Down-Wrench,8639.html   It worked quite well.

Re: rear shock upper bolts
Thanks everyone! I haven't got back to it yet. I'll have to look closer - maybe there's more room than I thought. Limey, only one class cancelled due to the Tractor Pull Weekend storm. That's pretty good! There is no more guaranteed weather than rain in Tomah that weekend. I went Friday night; the last modified blew a planetary and put a big whole through a rear wheel. Good times!

Re: rear shock upper bolts
I never finished the conversation here. A different day and the job seemed much easier. I put a vice grips on the first nut I rounded off and an offset box end on the other three. Piece of cake. I'm slowly realizing that stepping away for a little while is often the best solution. Thanks.
